Yano House / Peninsula Arquitetura

Yano House was designed on a lot measuring 10 meters in width by 44 meters in length. The architectural approach is based on the arrangement of nine reinforced concrete porticoes, which span the shorter cross-section of the site. These porticoes have their columns embedded within the masonry of the side boundary walls, while the upper beams, which remain exposed, also serve as support for the roofing system. There are no exposed columns in either the interior or exterior spaces.

This 350 m² (3,767 sq ft) penthouse, located in a 1990s building, had already undergone a previous renovation completed in 2019. The existing intervention featured a darker palette, with graphite flooring, track lighting, and dense finishes that did not align with the lifestyle or expectations of the current residents.

The project dealt with one of the building's largest apartments, the result of the merging of two neighboring units in block D, each with three bedrooms originally. An initial requirement for the job was to completely eliminate the dividing wall between the two living rooms — even though the apartments were already combined, there was only one small opening between the mirrored floor plans. Additionally, the walls of the two bedrooms adjoining the living rooms were partially demolished, creating a 24-meter-long social area with a clear and curved façade along the brise-soleil. As it is a high floor, it is possible to enjoy a wide-angle view of the city with the Serra da Cantareira in the distance. The mirror on the wall of the central circulation area, opposing the façade, invites the eye to find new vanishing points in the vast urban landscape.

Measuring just 5.6 meters wide by 20 meters long, the plot houses an architecture office and a multipurpose hall. The spatial constraints demanded not only the compression of functions but also a tight articulation between constructive and architectural solutions scaled to the intervention. The building, with its discreet facade and lack of expressive gestures, clearly expresses the intention to create an austere, silent, and contemplative space using the minimum necessary elements.
