The exhibition ›Mutation Methods‹ by Andreas Palfinger and Aysin Bahar Sahin investigates how objects construct reality and enable spatial transformation as well as architectural design.
The everyday object and the archaeology of realities: At the center is the everyday object as a carrier of social meaning and as the starting point for unorthodox design methods.

Andreas Palfinger (London / New York / Salzburg) and Aysin Bahar Sahin (New York / Istanbul) work at the intersection of architecture and art. Their collaboration began in New York and has since

Salzburg, Austria, set along the Salzach River, is a city where history and architecture merge seamlessly. Dominated by the imposing M Castle, its historic core reflects a rich Baroque heritage. Landmarks like the Salzburg Cathedral, crafted by Santino Solari, and the elegant Leopoldskron Palace showcase a past marked by grandeur and cultural influence. Visitors can trace centuries of architectural evolution through the city's streets, from medieval strongholds to Baroque splendor, all within a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The residential project "City Park Lehen" is located on one of the main roads into Salzburg. The unique characteristic of the location is the interaction of a diverse range of structures. Lending itself to vast number visitors, passers-by, and residents, the adjacent Ignaz-Harrer-Straße is a highly frequented urban core zone. On the other side of the property is a quiet park, used as a recreation area for the entire neighborhood. In addition, the site marks the boundary between large-scale block developments and loose, heterogeneous settlement structures.

The new public bath highlights Salzburg’s landmarks and mountains and represents a visionary architectural project in the city’s historic center. In terms of urban design, the new "Paracelsus Bad & Kurhaus" forms a joint between the late 19th-century block structures of Auerspergstraße, the open development along Schwarzstraße, the landscape of the Kurgarten and the Mirabellgarten. The geometry of the building is swiveled towards the park, making a reference to the geometry of the vanished fortification-walls of the baroque period.

In 2017 the curriculum could be expanded to include the study of pharmacy. In order to provide space for the new students, a new institute and laboratory building had to be available in time for the summer semester 2018. As a result of the relocation of a printing plant on the property directly adjacent to the university, an ideal site was available for a new building. Berger+Parkkinen Architects were commissioned with the planning of the new building in January 2016.

2013, architects of smartvoll came out as winners at the internationally advertised contest for the loft in the Panzerhalle. Their design captivates through specific, spatial dramaturgy. On 350 square meters and two storeys, the classic idea of a “loft” is noticeable, yet is being reinterpreted in many regards. „I never play with the façade, I do not live there“, said Adolf Loos. As Loos has concerned himself with definitions of space, smartvoll does the same, more than 100 years later. A special focus lies on the exhaustion of materials and of what is technologically possible. Architecture unfolds on the inside. The room- and material-concept develops the encountered and retains the established. Smoothed and waxed concrete is one of the decisive materials for shaping the interior.

In a moderated procedure with the client, city planning officials, and the Salzburg Advisory Committee for Architecture, the four Salzburg-based architecture offices – who have been adapting and extending the bell foundry since 2004 – developed another expansion scenario for the location with approximately 13 000 square meters of surface area for showrooms, studios, offices, and storage spaces. The cluster concept by LP architektur prevailed against the architectural strategies of hobby a., CS-architektur, and Strobl Architekten. The project was then collectively elaborated on the basis of this master plan.

Brief Optimization of the track access and roofed enclosures for new platforms within the existing train station added value through an expansion of the underpass into a shopping gallery, access to the trains is enhanced by natural lighting over the generous platform entrances, from a dark access space to an open pedestrian zone. The new organization of the Salzburg train station becomes an urban density project that not only serves the mobility and comfort of the traveller but also creates a public space and connects various districts of the city.
