In the late 16th century, the gardens of Villa Medici, transformed under Cardinal Ferdinando de' Medici, were organized around the celebrated system of the Carrés (historically known as I Quadrati): sixteen orthogonal compartments structured within a rigorous geometric plan. While the perimeter avenues expressed the language of Medici magnificence, the interior of each Carré supported a highly productive agricultural regime. Archival descriptions confirm the cultivation of vegetables, herbs, and fruit trees; plants valued not only for their rarity and beauty but also as instruments of political identity and territorial order. The Medici treated horticulture as both aesthetic display and economic infrastructure.

In Rome's Flaminio district, STUDIOTAMAT unveils Casa Continua, a 115 sqm apartment entirely reimagined through a project that engages with the home's layered history while opening it to new ways of living. The apartment is located within a refined residential building, whose character is already evident in the rationalist language of its entrance hall. Purchased by the owner more than thirty years ago, the home had gradually fallen out of step with the person living in it. Fragmented rooms and rigid hierarchies no longer reflected a daily life shaped by movement, conviviality, and sharing, nor the increasingly central role that cooking had come to play. The intervention, therefore, began as a broader realignment: a contemporary rewriting of the interior, restoring a dialogue between the house and its inhabitant.

We're in Conca D'Oro, a densely populated neighborhood in the northern stretch of Rome, beyond the Aniene River, a tributary of the Tiber. This part of the city saw intense urban growth in the post-war decades, an era that left its mark on the architecture still standing today. The home occupies a 1960s four-story building, with a brick-patterned façade and signature cruciform concrete pillars that anchor the prominent canopy of the first floor. It's a solid, rational structure, one that quietly wears its age.

One of the key aspects of this project was opening up the view toward the Servian Walls from the main hall, restoring visitors' visual connection to this historical legacy. Grandi Stazioni Retail has led the renewal of this architectural icon, designed by L35 Architects, projecting its image toward the future while honoring its profound historical legacy.

In addition to discussing the intellectual and cultural formation, interests, and sensitivity of the architect, or the "sacred" triad of architecture - venustas, firmitas, and utilitas (beauty, solidity, and functionality) - the treatise describes a design method, a kind of manual for Roman construction at the time.
In line with the intentions of the two architects, the project by 2050+ stems from the convictions that modernity is timeless – it does not rest on style or image, but on materials and function. Being modern is about embodying and transforming, rather than simulating an attitude. These stances translated into a series of targeted interventions that took on the legacy of the original project, while developing a dynamic relationship with the past, aiming to strike a balance between restoration and transformation.

Skyframe is a site-specific pop-up installation, designed for the fourth edition of FAR, the Architecture Festival of Rome. The installation is located in the Ostiense district, specifically in Piazza del Gazometro: an area strongly characterized by the presence of industrial archeology buildings of the twentieth century. The concept is inspired by the pure volumes and elementary geometric shapes of the paintings of the artistic movement “Novecento”.

A sensory experience. In the exceptional setting of the gardens of the Villa Medici, the pavilion puts the wood to the fore in this sensory experience that remains as close to nature as possible. Amidst the maritime pines, the pavilion evokes a nascent forest. Its spiral shape guides the visitor along the open palisade, revealing fragments of the surrounding landscape between the gaps in the wooden poles. Gradually, the palisades are superimposed and become denser, the boundary between exterior and interior blurring, while the succession of poles produces a kinetic effect that seems to make the pavilion vibrate.
