Jiangshan Tonglumen Urban Terrace is located in the core area of Jiangshan, Zhejiang Province — a waterfront public core integrating a neighborhood center, retail, hospitality, and urban plaza. To the east, the site adjoins the ancient city wall ruins, where the Xu River and the Luxi Canal converge; century-old sycamores and the old street fabric remain intact. Yet despite this depth of historical heritage, the site has long been fragmented by modern traffic roads and an artificial canal, forming a structural void within the urban fabric. How to transform this void into a public catalyst for the city's core area — allowing the vitality of everyday street life to flow back to the waterfront — became the central design question of this project.

Project Background
Like many county towns, Longyou County in Quzhou, Zhejiang, lacks competitive industries, leading to significant labor outflow. In 2022, Longyou County proposed the goal of becoming a youth development-oriented county. To address the challenge of retaining and attracting young people, the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, Fengyuzhu, and Bilibili jointly proposed the creation of the "HU SHI GUANG ART ECO SITE." This corridor is designed by 27 groups (later expanded to 40 groups) of architects, landscape architects, and artists born in the 80s and 90s, to attract young people back to Longyou with unique county cultural life.

The design tasks outlined in the brief include the construction of a new observation tower and the renovation and expansion of a sluice management house by the river. Both tasks share the same goal: to create a visually dominant landmark at the entrance of the entire art eco-corridor.

The unique wetland terrain surrounding the site has been shaped by long-term erosion and sedimentation from the Qu River, nurturing a rich ecosystem of plants and animals. The extensive mudflat meadows along the shoreline offer diverse conditions for experiencing the natural wetland landscape and ecological environment. Scattered across the shore are ancient cave sites, where man-made structures blend organically with nature, exuding a sense of history and mystery.

The Quzhou No.6 Experimental School is designed by LYCS Architecture. Located on Changshan Road in Quzhou's High-Speed Rail New Town, the campus spans approximately 67,500 square meters. It is a comprehensive educational complex accommodating a 36-class primary school and an 18-class middle school. Traditional school campuses are often composed of plazas, courtyards, and roads with clearly defined boundaries. However, as educational philosophies evolve, a single classroom can no longer accommodate the diverse spatial needs of contemporary education. The core design goal of this project is to create an open and flexible campus environment that encourages observation, exploration, and communication among students.

Fields with seasonal crop rotation present a changing landscape, while the irrigation canal remains a constant, straight line. I walked along a narrow path atop the canal, leading into the fields. At the end of the path, a black roof lay nestled against the ground. Amidst the colorful fields, the black object stood apart, an element of detachment. I paused in its shadow, resting between terraces. The silent sculpture vanished, its roof tethered lightly to the earth like a kite, subtly reflecting the field's glow. The space floated around a hidden core, where the echo of dripping water could be heard. The sound vibrated invisibly underground, rising briefly before merging into nature, allowing the space to expand further. Embedded in the cement were old objects, resembling relics that evoked memories of rural life. The pool's surface rippled gently, with an old water jar overturned inside. I observed the flowing water deep within the rice fields, echoing the unseen Qujiang River, hidden behind the dike. "Listening-to-the-rain Stop" is situated in the fields along the Qujiang River in Zhejiang. The lightweight structure houses an ancient sound device known as "Dripping into buried jar", which integrates the soundscape of the countryside. This installation explores the fusion of rural everyday life with artistic spirituality through the sonorous landscape of the fields.

Quay. "The Wind Rises" at the end of the landscape. Our initial design task is a small quay, with plans to dock two medium-sized cruise ships 20-30m long. In terms of building types, quays, outdoor swimming pools, diving platforms, and fishing platforms they all look alike. Just because it is paired with different components such as railings, ladders, tie-ups, or benches, a one-person wide elevated trestle can achieve multiple identity conversion. Therefore, we have developed five types of unit modules based on the prototype of the single-column elevated trestle to meet different environmental and functional requirements. The general plan of the quay is deduced from the relationship between the ship route, the river bank, the road, and the village: It is basically a cross shape, which follows the course from two directions; The angle between it and the river bank can enclose the swimming pool area; On the other hand, its extension into the land runs right through the farmlands, directly opposite the entrance to the village.

The campus officially opened on 18 June 2022. The studio has explored the proper planning between the waterfront landscape and the urban education complex, creating an ecological campus. The borderless layout aims to create a more vivid interaction between the campus and its surroundings. Eventually, the campus will be the place to work, communicate and live, providing more space to exchange ideas, express emotions and inspire innovation. The project is located in the Smart New Town of Quzhou and has a total construction area of 11,568 square meters. Designed according to the first-class standard of Zhejiang Province, it can accommodate 15 classes simultaneously. The project site is located in a high-density residential area surrounded by residential buildings on all sides except the west. As the demand for activity space increases for children's growth, the land for campus construction is extremely limited. Therefore, how to achieve maximum freedom within the limited space and use play and joy to stimulate children's motivation for autonomous exploration and learning has become the main topic of discussion in this case.

MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong, has completed Quzhou Stadium, the centerpiece of a complex spanning almost 700,000 square meters that will be known as Quzhou Sports Park in Zhejiang Province. Quzhou is a historic city 400 kilometers southwest of Shanghai and surrounded by dense forests to the east and west, its sinuous exterior profile reflects the mountain ridge within a distant view of the site while its landscape evokes those of planets imagined by visionary science fiction authors.

In the 25th year of The Reign of The King of Qin (222 BC), he destroyed The State of Chu and set up Taimo County in the land of Gomer. Since then, Longyou has been under the pen of literati and poets, and it is also an important territory for all the military commanders to contend for. The long river of time has not only left abundant historical and cultural memories but also left abundant immovable cultural resources such as prehistoric sites, Longyou grottoes, residential gardens of historical buildings, Han Dynasty tombs group, Yuan Dynasty weir DAMS, and so on. After a long period of preparation and waiting, the completion of the Longyou Museum is like opening a time complex to carry historical memories, so that the "hidden treasure" of Longyou is no longer "independent".

Led by the Ma Yansong, the team designed the campus as a futuristic landscape with mountains and a lake conceived as a sunken garden. The design connects to the historic city to become a surreal and tranquil landscape. The project's vision is to bring both the competition among sports stars and the physical activity of people’s daily lives together.
