The Ian Potter Museum of Art, Education and Programs Centre is a significant expansion of the original museum at the University of Melbourne's Parkville campus, extending into the heritage-listed 1930s Physics Annex. Connecting with both the campus and a major road leading out of the city centre, the concave, mirrored, polished stainless-steel portal extends from the original façade, marking the museum's presence and creating a multi-faceted public interface.

Gateway Building for Trinity College / McIldowie Partners

The Gateway Building sits prominently along Melbourne University’s historic circulation artery, the Tin Alley precinct. The new building forms a dramatic visual connection to the University from the centre of the Trinity College campus. The brief given to McIldowie Partners, was for the Gateway Building to serve as a new interface between Trinity College and the University. Affiliated with Melbourne University since 1872, Trinity College is home to the prestigious and successful Foundation Studies program – an academic ‘gateway’ that prepares up to 1,800 international students for entry into the University’s undergraduate courses each year. According to Director of McIldowie Partners, Steven McIldowie, the Gateway Building seamlessly reflects Melbourne’s history in brick and bluestone masonry whilst being contemporary and innovative in its own right. “Where traditionally, education buildings look inwards, we aimed to showcase Trinity College to the pedestrian flow linking the College and the University,” says McIldowie.

CSL Global Corporate Headquarters / Jacobs Group

The project team, working for the CSL Steering Committee – a select group of five senior executives representing the CSL Global Corporate Headquarters project – was headed by internal CSL Engineering Group project managers with Jacobs as lead consultant and Irwin Consult providing the majority of disciplines. The team worked closely with the steering committee to deliver a comprehensive upgrade and expansion of the existing early 1960’s modernist administration building designed by BatesSmart & McCutcheon.

The new Lemur exhibit at the Melbourne Zoo, a project undertaken in collaboration with Urban Initiatives (Landscape Architects) and Arterial Design (Interpretive Designers), is an example of Architecture contributing to the delivery of a contemporary Zoo experience. The existing Rainforest Trail now has a high impact entry exhibit, where visitors and Lemurs interact in an up close and personal environment.
