To access the house, it is necessary to cross a cable and wood bridge that spans the river, with views of crystal-clear pools on both sides, in the Corisquinho neighborhood of Paraty. After crossing, the terrain rises and the house appears in the distance. The external staircase leads to a single level, where the construction develops, at the height of the tree canopies.

Located on Jabaquara Beach in Paraty, the house accommodates a relatively large program on a 360m² urban lot. The approach was to compactly position it at the rear of the plot, orienting all the bedrooms, living room, and kitchen towards the Bay view, thereby freeing up the front of the property to create a garden. In front of this garden, a spacious area exists, comprising a soccer field, sunshades, local dining kiosks, the mangrove, and, finally, the sea.

Casa Agüé refers to lightness, like a feather that rests on the stones of the land and blends in with the treetops. The horizontal and modular typology architecture is divided between open decks and closed program modules. Its horizontality opens up, with maximum amplitude, to the panoramic view of the mountains and, on the horizon, the Bay of Paraty.

The Asha house was designed after a trip to the Amazon rain-forest in Acre (Brazil), where the architect Marko Brajovic got to know the Ashaninka indigenous village called Apiwtxa. The bio-climatic, topological intelligence, use of materials, elegance and the flexibility of space inspired the creation of the Asha house. The architecture design interprets the archetype of the ancestral Ashaninka typology in spaces and dynamics adapted to the actual house program, the climate of the Atlantic Forest biome and materials compatible with the construction techniques of the required structural system.

ARCA was named by the locals as it came as a ship in the middle of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. If fact, on a more anecdotic level, it’s an earthship project, that comes from a wish to mimic a specific Brazilian indigenous house typology (Asurini, Médio Xingu) and be a stand alone object with minimal impact to the surrounding.
