Petras Architects has revealed their third-prize winning entry in the competition to design a new cultural center in Paphos, Cyprus. The brief called for "spaces for the production of ideas and art," to provide new cultural infrastructure in the expansion of the village. Along with the new buildings, existing buildings were to be adapted to suit the new program, which was to include a school of fine art, workshops, and spaces for communal activity.

The founding stone was placed by the Bishop of Pafos, Georgios IV, on Saturday 7th December 2013 and the project was completed on Sunday 19^th July 2015.

The site is defined in the city boundary. The whole complex is a smooth transition from the urban fabric to the non built space and vice versa. A space grid/interconnection that is able to co-exist in an autonomous way or as an integral part of the city, while at the same time constitutes a landmark for the city of Pafos.

The house is located outside of Paphos centre, in Geroskipou. In order to build the comfortable house for the customers, the architect has paid attention to their requirements: three bedrooms, big veranda, a space for family and a special space for celebrations and events, the house has to be located far from the road. The customers preferred classical features in the outside.

The house was designed for a young couple with two young girls on a site located in the suburbs of Nicosia. The hot and arid climate together with the strong winds of the largely unprotected surrounding landscape became critical elements in the morphology of the project. The building tries to exclude the late western sun and the particularly strong west winds in the region but opens up to the south with the cantilevered roof preventing the summer sun but allowing the warm winter sun to heat the space. Clearstory windows enhance its passive cooling and heating capabilities on the ground floor.

The house was placed horizontally along the site, with the living areas having direct views to the seaside. Coming from the road you enter an open courtyard that leads to the living area. The bedrooms are located on the first floor, and are composed of a wooden outer shell with a slopped roof.
