Located in Olot, the new veterinary center is placed in an urban space with a singular geometry. The fact of being located in the corner of a crossroads and having three facades gives it great value and visibility as a commercial space while making it difficult to achieve an optimal interior layout. In order to respond to the functional needs of the clinic and to be able to provide all the spaces with the optimal dimensions for their proper functioning, the division between what is public and what is private is clearly defined.

Chuck, chuck, chuck… called the landscape of our childhood. And we approached that wild chicken coop. It offered us a roe deer that observed us, a green woodpecker that was blending with the background, and several gardeners that gave us courgettes and onions. And then came the low fog of winter mornings, and the frost. The water flowed through the gutters, and we ate loquats from the tree, fresh and free of charge. And we could not leave. Because we wanted to be part of that landscape, without making noise, with our eyes open and a joyful spirit.

Improving the vitality, comfort, and safety of the public space was done by fostering occupancy of closed shops and emphasizing relationships through the shop windows. That was the task developed on the street in the project, Good morning, Carme! (Olot, 2021). In a single year, 1000 m² of shops were opened and 120 m of façade were redesigned in a single square in the old town.

Can Sau house was located in the old city centre of Olot, where nowadays demolitions are not unusual. Given that half of the building was affected by street alignment, it was demolished, leaving an urban void characterized by a party wall and four stepped buttresses that faced the side façade of the church of the patron saint of Olot. For different reasons, the same consequences: abandoned lots, loss of urbanity, disfigurement of the street, destruction of the ordinary landscape.

“HABITARE” OR A HOME WITHOUT A HOUSE “Habitare”, to inhabit, from the Latin for “to occupy a place”, to live in it. Architecture is capable of summoning a house simply by outlining spaces, shaping their limits with countless resources and nuances. The architecture, the result of how houses are formed, depends on these limits and their formal and material complexity. And yet, a house isn’t by default necessarily a home.

This will be the centre of the sports complex of El Morrot. This is also the answer to the contradictions between use and site: an industrial estate and a street with hardly any sidewalks. The square connects visually with the geographical landmarks, the outline of the mountains that enclose the county. At the same time, it becomes separated from the factories and the street, busy with many lorries.
