Dun'ao Village in Xiangshan, Ningbo, sits inland among low hills and rice fields. The project began with a desire to reflect the calm, poetic atmosphere of this secluded landscape. Instead of rigid architectural frameworks, we initiated the design with sketches and poems, aiming for lightness, openness, and play. We revitalized three abandoned utility structures using a combination of steel containers and inflatable forms. These prefabricated systems enabled rapid installation and allowed us to craft flexible, playful spatial experiences across three sites:

The project is located in a tech office park, with a sports park just across the road. Stopping is a step toward a better departure. With "stopping" as our central theme, we integrate elements of travel from Eastern culture into the space. The rest pavilions nestled in nature and the scholar's essential traveling trunk, the book box, become the primary elements in the evolution of our spatial design. A pavilion, an ancient structure for rest and relaxation. We have reinterpreted this seemingly ordinary form through modern simplification and incorporated it into the space as the main structure of the coffee bar. It carries the meaning of "staying" and also serves as a focal point, drawing people in and gathering attention within the space.

Located in the Jiaochuan Subdistrict community of Zhenhai District, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, the project addresses the challenges faced by podium commercial spaces under the impact of shifting consumer patterns and the rise of online commerce. Struggling to survive, these commercial spaces have seen stagnant utilization and maintenance, with their original business formats nearly eroded. The key to revitalizing this area lies in understanding the demographics and genuine needs of nearby residents. With a population dominated by elderly individuals and relocated residents, daily shopping and leisure activities are their primary demands. To address this, we introduced a fresh market and small-scale public spaces—pocket parks—into the neighborhood, using lifestyle-driven strategies to breathe new life into the area.

Driving from Ningbo across the vast Xiangshan Harbor, along the extended eastern coastline, and through the Danmen Tunnel, we soon reach our destination—a little-known East China Sea prairie hidden in the unique landscape where mountains meet the sea. Twenty years ago, Xiangshan County implemented a land reclamation project, constructing a dam between Dawanshan and Xiyangshan to the north and south. The reclaimed mudflat pasture spans nearly a thousand acres. Over the years, this rare East China Sea prairie has retained its natural, unspoiled pastoral landscape, serving as a habitat for cattle and seabirds.

Tanghua Architects has conceived a conference center in the form of a covered bridge surrounded by picturesque mountain and river landscapes. The scheme, with distinctive design and a response to the genius loci, stood out among other proposals in an international competition and has been successfully executed. The conference center serves as a venue for government affairs and business activities related to the "Belt and Road Initiative" and "Yangtze River Delta Integration Plan". Furthermore, it symbolizes national culture and plays the role of a bridge connecting Ningbo and the world. The conference center is located in the Dongqian Lake Scenic Area on the southeast outskirts of Ningbo City. Adjacent to the west shore of Dongqian Lake and connected to two mountains on its north and south sides, the core plot spans about 49 hectares (735 mu). It's where the streams, rivers, lakes, mountains, lotus ponds, water outlets and riverbanks meet, and expansive paddies and wetlands unfold across thousands of square meters.

Qixiakeng Village, located in Xikou Town, Fenghua, is the entrance to the ancient Qixiakeng Road. The narrow alley, covered in dense forests and surrounded by mountains and long canyons, was originally named Peach Blossom Pit. Its name later changed into Qixiakeng (Resting Pit for glowing coulds) as in autumn, the mountains are all covered with red maple leaves as if cast by the rosy sunset. The village is located in the valley with residential buildings along both sides of the stream. The stream under tiny pons, clear springs in running brooks, ancient trees, and the arising mist consist of the charm of the ancient Jiangnan village. If you self-drive to Qixiakeng Village, you will get off the expressway, pass through a mountain road, and circle around the reservoir for ten minutes with no villages to be seen. If you are lucky, you will also enjoy the picturesque view of the sparkling lake and surrounding mountains in the distance.

This project retrofits an old warehouse on the riverbank into a new function of exhibition, cultural, and sales center. It is located on the north bank of the Yong River, not far from the city center of Ningbo, as part of the first phase of the Creative Ports. The area, formerly an intermodal area that presents the old north railway station, the 3rd industrial port, and the associated warehouses, is now being redeveloped to accommodate mixed uses in the vision of a new urban creative industry incubator.
