The chapel Fuego Nuevo is conceived as a space where natural light is an essential part of the architecture. The structure works as a unity of the columns, walls, beams and slabs. They remain as bare and heavy elements and are constantly repeated generating a rhythm of solids and voids that allow natural light to play its role as a protagonist. We were commissioned to develop a project for a church with very specific needs for the congregation lead by the priests. When the project was presented to the community it was very well received. Many of the church's resources have come from donations from parishioners and some foundations, so we also aimed to work with low-maintenance materials that could age with dignity.

The building is the most iconic on the campus and one of the most important in the history of modern architecture in Mexico. Since its construction, its use has changed many times. The result of all these modifications over the years is that the building retains its historic character in some areas, but not necessarily in others. A clear sense of cohesion is lacking. Most importantly, however, the spaces do not function optimally.

Description by David Basulto.

TEC de Monterrey innovates in the area of education, focusing on a curriculum that seeks to adapt flexibly and dynamically to the rapid changes in society, to provide students with the necessary skills to face these changes. Within its 2030 vision, it also understands that education is comprehensive. It has a focus on people and their mental health, housing a space with a very particular and compelling program: a space for pause and reflection.
