Located on a slope descending toward the beach of Matanzas, Casa Maria responds to a natural ravine that cuts through the site, deriving its geometry from this condition. From this reading, a right triangle is established, with its longest edge running parallel to the ravine, allowing the house's main spaces to open toward the ocean.

A retired German couple commissioned us to design a house where they could spend several months each year, close to their grandchildren and able to enjoy family life at a slower pace. They wanted the house to be economical to build, comfortable, and full of light, while also functioning well as a vacation rental during the periods when they would not be in residence.

The project, known as the Galeo Pavilion, was commissioned by a client seeking a separate lodging unit on their coastal property in Chorrillos, central Chile, intended primarily for adolescents and their guests, while remaining near the family's main holiday residence. The client's brief was exceptionally direct, requiring an 8 by 8-meter freestanding pavilion on an already prepared clearing, with earthworks completed and construction slated to start within one month.

Set atop a steep ridge in La Vega de Pupuya, Chile, this house embraces the landscape through a bridge-like form that floats above the terrain. A wooden rib system and exterior walkway connect each space independently, while wooden shutters regulate light and privacy. Built on a steel frame, the structure minimizes its impact and maximizes views. Designed for a simple yet immersive lifestyle, the project celebrates the dialogue between architecture and nature without imposing on the surrounding environment.

The client requested a 70 m2 house with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, designed for a young audience, that had to be cost-effective to build and preferably developed on two levels to have sea views.

The plot for which the project was commissioned is positioned in a theoretical second line with respect to the sea, so one of the client's requests was to find visual focal points towards the coast. For this, it was proposed that the entire house be suspended over the natural terrain through a structure of wooden pillars and diagonals, with enough meters to achieve the objective.

The house is located at the front line next to the sea of a few lots of condominiums, in the north zone of Matanzas. The land that is part of this lot, is formed by a slight slope that leads to a 65-meter cliff, ending at the beach. For the general design of the house, three main factors were considered that were decisive in the decision-making process: to protect an exterior sector from the strong south-westerly wind that prevails in the area, to maintain privacy from the neighbors on the north and south sides, and to take full advantage of the sea view.

This project was born as a holiday home on the coast. The two cabins for two people each are located in Matanzas, Navidad, approximately 2 ½ hours from Santiago. Placed 80 meters above sea level on the Lagunilla hill, the cabins rise in front of the “Lobera”, a large rock mass jutting out of the sea, home to sea lions and other native species.

This work corresponds to a vacation home, the first construction within a condominium located a few minutes from the town of Matanzas, Navidad. Given the conditions in which it is located, the first thing was to look for the distant views of the Pacific Ocean and the immediate territory, such as the existing vegetation, the ravines and, of course, a good orientation that allows the work to maintain sunlight throughout the year and good ventilation.

The place chosen for this was Matanzas, where they found a piece of land on a hill facing north with a great view of the beach and the massive cliffs of the La Boca de Rapel village.

The house is located in Centinela Hill, in Matanzas, seeking the views towards the village of La Boca, where the River Rapel flows into the Pacific Ocean. The project works as an interplay between two intersected volumes, where the first level contains the kitchen a living area and a dining area in form of an open plan and also a storage. The project searches to integrate the interiors with the spacious terraces creating in this way a sensation of greater amplitude. These terraces, one acting as an access and the other as an additional living room, are generated through an act of volumetric subtraction and provide good sunlight exposure.
