Conceived as a significant new addition to one of <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/europe/page/1">Europe</a>'s leading sculpture parks and cultural destinations, the project is scheduled to open in 2031 and will house the art collection of <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/kistefos-museum/page/1">Kistefos</a> founder and collector Christen Sveaas through the Christen Sveaas Art Foundation. Intended to establish a more visible civic presence for the Qatari diplomatic service and provide public access to the Ministry complex, the project is planned for a prominent site along <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/city/doha" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Doha</a>'s waterfront, transforming a significant section of the city's Corniche. Situated beside Doha Bay, the 70,000-square-meter (750,000-square-foot) project is conceived as a combination of new construction and the adaptive reuse of the historic modernist General Post Office currently on the site.</p>]]>

The memorial aims to provide visitors with a space for reflection in <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/city/london" target="_blank" rel="noopener">London</a>'s St James's Park, a site of historical and constitutional significance. <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/office/foster-plus-partners" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Foster + Partners</a>' winning proposal features a new bridge inspired by the Queen's wedding tiara, a Prince Philip Gate, and new gardens. The new building will be on a site adjacent to the Book Pavilion and commissioned by H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa on behalf of the State of Qatar. With this addition, Qatar becomes one of only 31 countries with a permanent pavilion in the <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/giardini">Giardini</a>, joining a select group of nations with dedicated exhibition spaces.         <![CDATA[<p>In May 2017, the Chilean firm <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/office/elemental">ELEMENTAL</a> was chosen to design the <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/871327/elemental-selected-to-design-one-of-qatars-largest-cultural-centers-dohas-art-mill-alejandro-aravena" target="_blank">Art Mill</a>, a cultural center that will be one of the largest in Qatar and will share a neighborhood with the <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/867307/why-im-peis-museum-of-islamic-art-is-the-perfect-building-to-suit-dohas-style">Museum of Islamic Art (by I.M. Pei)</a> and the <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/54737/national-museum-of-qatar-jean-nouvel">National Museum of Qatar (by Jean Nouvel)</a>. Organized by <a href="/tag/malcolm-reading-consultants">Malcolm Reading Consultants</a>, the final verdict closed an exhausting call that initially received 489 proposals and extended for two years in its four phases.</p>]]>
