From ancient commercial ports to today's multifunctional waterfronts, maritime and riverfront areas represent spaces of immense economic and social potential.
The Government Building is located at the Teatinos campus, west of the city of Málaga in Spain. It hosts the presidency of the University among several other administrative and representative services, which were scattered throughout the city until now. The project also includes an additional 800-seat Auditorium –the largest in the city of Málaga–; a botanical garden; and an outside theatre. All aiming to create a new center on a brand-new University campus. The project seeks to be essential in its figuration, pointing to elemental architecture types, and with a timeless and abstract expression. The two volumes define a very representative character while establishing a conversation in a densely vegetated park. Both volumes are mostly built with a single material ¬–local white marble–, with minimum industrial processing and energy usage and following a strict modulation, to minimize cutouts and waste, which are then fully reutilized in different parts of the building.

Located at the back of Sciences School, this intervention transforms a disused place to provide users with different buildings in the environment of an open-air co-working space, relaxed and friendly, which provides a microclimate of environmental and sensory comfort, and technology for access to renewable energy and information.

Step is the construction of an oblique space, and with it, of an exceptional spatial experience that offers the visitor an opportunity to inhabit a place not governed by Euclidean dimensions. Throughout our collaborations with this client, we have been developing strategies capable of generating memorable shopping experiences, always through the use of geometry and color. This is the most radical exercise in this sense: a single gesture and a single color provide the solution to both the programmatic and functional requirements and to the aesthetic ones, concluding that both go hand in hand and that the success of a project depends on their balance of retail.

This is a project that appears on the seashore, near a preexistence of a protected smokestack from the beginning of the 20th century, that informs us of the industrial activity in that area, at that time the industrial outskirts of Malaga. Pairs of identical buildings were built, as if they were twins, on the seafront, like an extension of Malaga center, and converted it into a new promenade for the city, close to where the economic crisis had left the last two land plots unbuilt near the industrial vestige. Now, after more than a decade, this place is completed with two “stepbrothers” projects; by the same mother (the city plots) but different fathers (the architects of each project). The project aims to make it easier to understand the place linked to the smokestack of the twentieth century.

Thus, this factory is located between two of the main roads of the city, as its new entrance milestone, while ensuring a proper industrial functionality and allowing trucks flow in a very easy way. In order to build over the remaining structure of the former factory located there, a sustainable way of working was required, by combining their needs with the existing elements where urban planning and construction security become fundamental. However, this factory means to Malaga much more than the industrial revitalization described.

The result of the building process in which Malaga’s cathedral has been immersed in since 1524 is that even though it possesses a notable architectural unity, it is lacking a clearly defined style. Over these—practically—five hundred years, there have been periods of considerable advance in its construction, like the 16th century, during which the fortress-like apse was built with airs of the Renaissance, and the 18th century, in which the choir nave and the main facade were materialized with the looks of a Baroque palace. The cathedral’s governing body insistence on maintaining the unity of the temple, made the 18th century architects realize a project that, even though it belongs to its day, is laid out upon previously built parts.

Inacua Racquet Club is following the enlargement of the sporting Inacua sports complex in the west of the city of Malaga. Seven tennis courts and fifteen paddle courts need a house club with a lot off services where we find the main entrance.
