Preserving the original charm - In this renovation project, we intervened in an iconic 1920's building, maintaining the spirit of its original architecture. With 319 m² and ceilings of 3.3 meters high, the objective was to respect the distinctive elements of the period, highlighting them and adapting the distribution to a current lifestyle. The spaces were rethought to gain in spaciousness and functionality, prioritizing the connection of compatible environments in open areas.

The intervention transforms this condition into a calm domestic interior, where architecture, materiality and light shape a serene atmosphere within a compact footprint. As a ground-floor unit, the apartment received little daylight. The existing window, divided into multiple horizontal and vertical sections, restricted both light and visual openness. It was replaced with a single, full-height pivoting wooden window, designed without divisions to maximize natural light and establish material continuity with the interior.

A house that is conceived from the sustainable bases of our study, seeking the highest efficiency for housing using innovative construction solutions, such as CLT wood construction, a distribution that allows cross ventilation through interior courtyards and low-impact air conditioning systems. Being pioneers in wood construction in Spain and having established ourselves as the studio with more designs and executions of wood-framed housing nationwide, in this project we combine sustainability with careful attention to detail to achieve a more responsible architecture, more timeless and higher spatial quality.

Karl van Es spent twenty years as a practicing architect before walking away to solve a problem every architect faces: the resources to travel like a professional simply do not exist. Mainstream guidebooks and travel apps rarely highlight the buildings that truly matter to the architectural community. Åvontuura was born from that frustration — an independent publisher of illustrated architecture guides created by an architect, for architects. Its latest release, Madrid, maps 70 of the city's most significant buildings, representing a mission to bridge the gap between architectural interest and travel logistics.

For their private use, they decided to build a pool, sacrificing nearly all of the twenty-eight square meters that made up the backyard of their home, which until then had been a place for children's revelry and a respite from domestic tasks. It is possible that the decision was made simply in response to changing circumstances: with the children grown and the housekeeper working outside the home, the yard fell into disuse; or perhaps, it was the pool, as a fantasy imported from postcards of sun and tourism, that managed to carve out a place as a desire among other domestic needs.

Celebrities, like soccer players, form an elite group characterized by a high concentration of wealth and significant social status. They are not only buyers of high-end architecture as authored property and cultural capital, but also agents of its preservation and promotion. This year, we are seeing new examples of this agency at work from a more abstract yet also more popular perspective: from the stage design for Bad Bunny's Super Bowl performance to a newly designed stadium for Shakira by BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, architecture is used as a vehicle for promoting Latin American identity.

The 45th edition of ARCO 2026 takes as its central theme “two spaces within the fair.” Our proposal responds to this duality: on the one hand, a constructed space—the Guest Lounge—and on the other, an evoked space—the forests of the northwestern Iberian Peninsula that burned uncontrollably this past August.
