The first university in the Netherlands was founded in Leiden in 1575. The institute is a familiar sight in the historic city centre with its historic buildings. Less well known is the fact that the university's "Gorlaeus" buildings were constructed in the second half of the 20th century, marking the development of a modern knowledge campus outside the city centre: today's Leiden Bio Science Park.

Hotel Rumour: a beguiling destination where anything can happen. As the oldest structure in Leiden, dating back to 1060, the Burcht van Leiden castle is one of the most evocative places in the city. Just down the hill is a carriage house that dates back to 1657. Studio Modijefsky has brought this humble building into the 21st century as Hotel Rumour: a vibrant social hub that can host everything from lively dinners to intimate drinks, private gatherings and dance nights – anything, in fact, apart from a sleepover. Despite the vitrine in the hallway that sells gift shop staples like bathrobes and keychains, this isn't really a hotel. It's all part of an elaborate personality created by Studio Modijefsky, who worked on everything from the name and brand identity to the merchandise and postcards.

Commissioned by Leiden University, De Zwarte Hond has completed the circular renovation and extension of the former Cluster Zuid building of the Faculty of Humanities. Architect Joop van Stigt designed Cluster Zuid for the Faculty of Humanities of Leiden University in the late 1970s. This impressive example of structuralist architecture was re-inaugurated on 8 October as Herta Mohr. It now offers 11,400 m² of space, plus car parking, with more than 700 teaching spaces and self-study places, two lecture theatres, work and meeting rooms, and common rooms. The building also houses the libraries of Leiden's African Studies Centre and the Middle Eastern Studies program.

After many years, the renovation of the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre is finally complete. Located in the city of Leiden, the Netherlands, the museum and research institute has been dramatically expanded and transformed, with Hollandse Nieuwe responsible for the interior transformation of the employee areas and research offices. Hollandse Nieuwe was involved in workplace strategy, support, and the complete interior design of the new working environments. Together with Naturalis, a workplace strategy and design were developed through a combination of workshops, analysis, and department shadowing by the design team. The central issue in the Naturalis project was in creating an appropriate design solution that catered for its diverse workforce, as researchers, museum staff, and support staff all had different requirements and activity patterns. Alongside these considerations, the building's technical and installation constraints also played a significant role in the development and definition of the final design.

Lorentz Leiden consists of a composition of three light-colored towers of different heights on top of a plinth building. In Phase 1, the first two towers and plinth have now been realized. The towers have a slightly sparkling aluminium façade cladding; the highest tower in champagne color and the lower one in bronze. Both towers are crowned with two storey-high maisonettes that offer a splendid view on the city and far beyond.
