"The architecture cannot be totally explained but must be experienced." TropiBox Kochi features interconnected levels and open spaces, with pavilions designed to surprise and create a cohesive whole. Careful attention to detail, scale, and proportion enhances the human experience. Inspired by Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, TAB has crafted a unique blend of greenery-filled architecture and tropical modernism. The primary challenge was to design a home that provides each inhabitant with their own space while encouraging interaction. The building is organized using a vertical stacking strategy, with gardens and glass walls nestled between two main concrete façades. This design approach improves the microclimate by introducing natural ventilation and daylight into every room while the alternating openings enhance visibility and interaction among family members.

The Hidden House. Let these words paint a picture of a secretive abode shielded from plain sight, nothing could be farther from the truth. For this is “a house that does not try to blend in; it wants to stand out from the rest, grab attention and take in those glances from the street,” declare architects Aslam Karadan and Sham Salim of eponymous Kozhikode-based practice Aslam.Sham Architects. “It is unapologetically unique with its form and intends to capture the intrigue of the passers-by—just like the client wanted it to.” The ‘hidden’ part of the moniker, they explain, comes from the home’s disguised scale: a three-level home that creates the illusion of being a smaller, two-Storey structure.

It's not what you look at that matters. It's what you see - Thoreau. When architecture attempts to merge two paradoxical forces, there arises a metaphorical meaning to what hasbeen achieved. The concept of 'lightness' generally relates to the physical weightof objects or materials. In the realm of design, it can take a surrealistic stance when used to alter the perceived visual mass and ambience. Through the manipulation of forms, play of materials and control of light & shadow, the concept evolves into a sensory experience.
