Transforming Hospitality into Home - Mangrove Dongdaemun, once a conventional business hotel, has undergone a remarkable transformation into a vibrant co-living community accommodating over 300 people, redefining urban living in the heart of Seoul. In an era marked by uncertainty in residential choices, the emergence of coliving presents a novel alternative, fostering a shared living experience within meticulously crafted spaces for comfortable dwellings. MGRV, the visionary behind this project, articulates a vision to transcend the conventional notion of lodging and cultivate a communal living environment reminiscent of home, where individuals seamlessly coexist amidst intuitively designed communal and private spaces, fostering harmony.

The Yeongjongdo Onnuri Church stands as a unique religious center on a developing island near Seoul, South Korea. Its design integrates the symbolic form of Noah's Ark with the practical concept of upcycling dismantled ship hulls. The building's bow, which is pointed skyward, serves as a powerful visual reminder of the ark. This project promotes the concepts of scale, ready-made elements, and sustainable reuse. Fragmented sections of the recycled ship's hull become integral parts of the church's architecture. Steel, a readily available and highly durable material, finds renewed purpose in its elegant, curved forms.

Located in the vibrant heart of Myeong-dong, Seoul, the skin1004 flagship store emerges as a distinctive presence in a saturated landscape of skincare boutiques. The essence of this differentiation lies in meticulous, creative space design, serving as the cornerstone for shaping the brand's unique identity and resonance with the public. As the pioneer of the first offline flagship store in Myeongdong, skin1004 embraces the profound concept of "untouched nature," liberating itself from the cliche of nature in green hues. Instead, it introduces a newly crafted landscape, bathed in rich brown and beige tones inspired by the pristine nature of Madagascar, surrounded by rocks, pebbles, and sand. The design aims to offer a distinct experience by blending various landscapes within the urban environment. This intentional contrast with the bustling city outside creates a captivating space, sparking curiosity and providing an intriguing escape for visitors.

Long ago, in the midst of the Korean War, refugees established a shantytown in this neighborhood with views overlooking Busan Port. The 40 Steps in Jungang-dong became a path rich in history and meaning. It was a daily route for the shantytown’s inhabitants as they traveled to and from the port for work, and it also served as a communal spot where they would wait and meet with others several times throughout the day.
