Ginkgo Gallery by MORE Architecture is an innovative new museum on a ginkgo tree-covered island, in Jiaxing, China. Inspired by the DNA of local villages, the museum invites visitors to wander through and discover the different sections as if they were exploring a small town. It is therefore set up as a blend of two traditional museum typologies – the guided museum meets the free plan museum, creating a floorplan with ‘fluid spaces’. The orientation towards, and connection with the surrounding water and landscape generate a deep relationship between culture and art. The museum has a modest appearance, emphasized by its materiality: in-situ cast concrete.

MAD Architects has announced the completion of the Jiaxing Train Station, the first transportation infrastructure project developed by the architecture office. Located in the historic city of Jiaxing, 100 kilometers southwest of Shanghai, the project involves the replacement of a dysfunctional station that had stood at the site between 1995 and 2019. As China has developed significantly in terms of urbanization, its train stations have grown into complicated, widespread, and uninviting infrastructures. Through their project, MAD Architects strive to return to a human scale, to create a facility that responds to the newest developments in transportation technology, while creating spaces that are comfortable and easy to navigate for its users.

In the planning design, the whole park retains the original natural feeling to the greatest extent. When people enter the site from the southwest corner of the park, they can see the plum forest and open grassland surrounded by bamboo fences in the park. Therefore, the design consideration of the exhibition hall building is also defined as a simple and rough temperament in nature from the beginning of the design.

The City Lounge is located on Zhongshan Road, the core area of the old city of Jiaxing. The site is sandwiched among buildings of different ages and is a typical urban debris space. The project is part of the old town remodeling plan of Jiaxing and is different from the large-scale overall renewal. It introduces Jane Jacobs' "street eye" concept into the debris space reconstruction, trying to apply the "organ style" point of renewal to arouse the public's passion for the complex and diverse life in the old city.

Renew – The Soul. This time Roarc Renew received a task themed at countryside renewing. We do believe with great certainty that the essential feature of a renewing project compared to a newly-built project is “conforming to the original energy field of the construction”. The soul of every renewing project is to find out the hidden flow and go with it. It is as if the bright moon cannot be seen before clouds move away. Certainly, the first thing is to identify which cloud should move away and how to move it away. This is the methodology Roarc Renew used in building renewing for the past years.

Led by Ma Yansong, MAD Architects have released their design for the Jiaxing Civic Center, a project that explores the relationship between city, nature, and people. The proposed center will be a new place of attraction for children, adults, and seniors, sitting on the city's central axis and surrounded by its South Lake, Haiyan River, and Central Park. The master plan will house three venues: the Science and Technology Museum, the Women and Children Activity Center, and the Youth Activity Center, all organized around a central green open space. The firm's latest public project in Jiaxing City, which is expected to be complete by the end of 2023, comes shortly after they unveiled their design for the Jiaxing Train Station earlier this year.
