The Karachi Steel project reimagines a conventional industrial warehouse into a bold statement of brand identity. By using observation as the design approach, the real revealing challenge was not just to refurbish the structure but to redefine how the steel industry is perceived within its industrial setting, which presented a dense environment of noise, soot, and dust.

Lamp House is a single-family residence that eschews the ostentatiousness often associated with suburban dwellings. This project, a testament to ORAD's vision, champions the concept of "pure form." Here, ornamentation is stripped away, revealing a symphony of clean lines and essential elements that orchestrate a minimalist masterpiece.

“Discerning the by-product of space between residential and landscape design, JD House has been shaped as a graceful abode that communicates the creative enterprise of architectural design in the context of Islamabad.” The house is an embodiment of an ‘out-of-the-box’ design thought process that has been implemented in a unique manner amidst a set of design challenges. The architectural solution has therefore been intentionally executed to set a diverse tone for the reintroduction of the true modern aesthetics of design in the booming architectural industry of Pakistan.

Pakistani architecture is defined by multiplicity. Both following tradition and breaking from it, contemporary projects contend with multiple histories. Informed by the coexistence and juxtaposition of conditions like regulated development and informal settlements in Karachi and Islamabad, modern designs are being shaped by broader contexts. In turn, these public and private projects are exploring new spaces and forms.

Traditionally courts have always played an integral part in local architecture, be it residential, institutional or religious building types. These central spaces become the main socializing hubs for people. In the Telenor office this concept is used as a focal point, interconnecting blocks around large water bodies in the internal courts encourage social interaction between the users. Located in Islamabad, Pakistan, the site, for the Telenor office campus is made up of 15 acres of an undulating landscape which exemplifies the Potohar plateau. The design ensures that the site’s existing topography and natural water courses remain intact: for this, inspiration was sought from the historic stepwells of Pakistan’s Punjab province and western India, used as an architectural device for storing rainwater (Baolis).

The promise of the more than 270 square mile ‘new New Cairo’ has attracted headlines from around the world with its sheer scale; a $45 billion development of housing, shopping and landmarks designed to attract tourism from day one, including a theme park larger than Disneyland. And of course, the plans include the promise of homes - for at least 5 million residents in fact, with the vast number of schools, hospitals and religious and community buildings that a modern city requires - making the new capital of Egypt the largest planned city in history.
