The project started with a wish from the client to create more space for the living floor of their house. The 1,5-meter level difference between the living room and the garden, which was at first seen as a constraint, became a source of inspiration to create a large room at the floor level of the garden but at the ceiling level of the living floor, integrating both spaces, but keeping them separate at the same time

The existing house lies on a generous lot and has a typical 30's style. Despite the state of degradation, its original architectural language was kept intact: two colours decorating bricks (…), stone basement, apparent metallic lintels, etc.

The project grew out of two desires: on the one hand the desire to protect the site of a highly industrialized environement hostile to the presence of the Police and also to develop the landscape potential of it (the presence of the channel and a meadow for dog training).
