The requirements for the project and its genesis were the transformation of a 1920s apartment, which belongs to a building signed by the architect Francisco Prieto Moreno, into a short-term residence for a couple whose permanent house is between London and Singapore. They also needed the apartment to be an exhibition space for their art collection.

In order to build the municipal swimming pool, Lobres city council considered the old schools site, with a remaining building recently restored as a gym. A block with more than three meters drop between its boundaries within the small-scale building grid, no more than two-story high, orchards and ditches surrounding this little Guadalfeo valley's city centre, beside Granada's sea.

"The challenge of architecture today is to understand the rural world" Rem Koolhaas The project supports the renovation of a dwelling in nature consisting of three pavilions and the creation of a new pavilion as a "connected office". The main objective is to convert it into a house that meets the housing needs that the recent pandemic has shown to be lacking, to adapt it to its current living situation, to improve energy efficiency... and to enrich the quality of life of the owners. The origin of the house was the transformation of an old shed. The functional needs forced successive extensions and the resource exhibited gravitated to leave the wooden building free-standing, for its uniqueness.

The first time we visited the site, the spiritual retreat house of a religious community emerged from it. We climbed onto the roof of a four-story building with no protection other than a four-inch overhang on the perimeter and we were struck by the sight. From that eerie elevated, unprotected position, we seemed to dominate the entire valley. Sierra Nevada, the Alhambra, the Cartuja, the red roofs of the building that dotted the urban area, the extensive plain...

Intervention is a reactive architecture faced to the hostility of urban conditions in the site and to the scheduled mechanism proper of a lifestyle inherited from the 20th Century modernity. An impersonal crossway with high traffic volume is balanced through a biophilic interior for a collective meeting. Being today demands the pass towards metamodernism. The presence of a human being that is recognized in living together and the respective meeting with others, just as sunflowers which in absence of the sun recognize and look one to each other.

The site is located in a developing residential quarter in the outskirts of Granada surrounded by new buildings and facing a wide avenue. All business nearby are newly implanted and lacking character. There is not an intense pedestrian life in this neighborhood so it is crucial to be easily spotted from the passing vehicles during both day and nighttime.

The initial idea is to provide a closer architecture, almost family, in the composition of spaces as well as in the treatment of light and texture that provides the ceramic skin. The materiality of this building is linked from the beginning to the argument of the project process. Ground floor is projected as a threshold space compressed by the building itself in its upper floors. We can say that the building’s project is the ceramic enclosure of their classrooms that hangs over the city map. This basic approach results from the structural solution adopted by this project based on the study of the section: a roof truss, containing the two upper floors of classrooms and departments, supported by two lines of brackets, saving a long distance, under which common areas are developed in continuity with the outside landscaped terraces and protected by a powerful cantilever.

The project, located in an area of recent urban extension, proposes a grouping of three single-family homes that define a compact and unitary construction. They adjust to the exterior alignments of the plot and release an interior space of each home. This provision gives the building an urban scale and allows to open the spaces of the houses both to the streets and to the inner courtyards, protected and better oriented.

We took on this project in the understanding that there was a need to "manipulate" the building code applicable to "our" lot. This code established the construction of either a townhouse or a row house, with a back yard and a three meter set back from the street in order to create a unitary facade along the block. The existing homes adapt to these rules, the result being the repetitive planning of the same type of house.

The advertising company BABYDOG decided to move to an old house located on the fourth floor of a building in the center of the historic center of the city of Granada. The amazing situation (just in front of the Alhambra), the public scale of the spaces and its configuration made this project a special one. How to face the construction of a home with a small plot of land enclosed between walls, whose only façade faces north? This is the starting point of a project which, due to its complex answer, is based on simple premises. The project begins by dialoguing with tradition: The idea of building a courtyard house with contemporary style and language arises. The centrality of this type of housing allows the permeability of space and light, giving a feeling of amplitude that contrasts with the original size of the plot. The courtyard acquires its contemporary nature thanks to the chosen materials, concrete and reed, which use light to sift their textures and materiality.

The Glass Pavilion is a research prototype for a comfortable if elementary retreat in a tense juxtaposition with harsh surrounding environment. The project, initiated by Guardian Glass is challenging thermal and structural abilities of glass. Instead of focusing only in “a glass as a window element” the concept explored its advanced potentials, e.g. transparent but shading element, a thin but thermally efficient envelope that is also the sole structural support.
