The house is located in the Barrocal Algarvio, in Agostos, in a predominantly rural area characterized by scattered houses along a network of paths, set in medium-sized properties, bounded by thick stone masonry walls, originally intended for subsistence farming where dry fruit predominated.

Three Exposed Concrete Façades / corpo atelier

Three concrete façades of three houses are set around a courtyard. Each façade displays a different arrangement of the same constructive principle: a wall of exposed concrete rises from the ground, then, at a certain moment, a metal grid emerges from the concrete to contain a variety of local stones stacked on top of each other, until finally, the grid contains nothing but air.

The doors invite you to enter a House with History, in a magical, ancestral, and bourgeois atmosphere of the 1920s. We are in 1923, in a very rare building and a unique example of Art Nouveau in the city of Faro. The present project intends to recover, restore, and expand the existing building, through a deep rehabilitation, simultaneously restoring the exterior and interior and the use of the roof area.

The complete whiteness of a small traditional house is interrupted by cuts that display natural materials. Inside, two types of white ceilings are purposefully incomplete, revealing the wood beams that hold the first floor and the roof structure.

The construction field, with 1690 sqm, is located in a area with very positive conditions in order to develop a quality solution, not only paisagistique as architectonic one. The surroundings are mainly occupied by isolated houses, with great wooded areas, predominantly pine trees that protect and apparently increase distance between constructions, offering a less modified environment, with the sea and the beach in a small distance too. The purpose was to design a house that would be used as a vacations destiny, by a family that enjoys a lot the beach and the summer.

The lot is faced East by a golf course road, South by a lot where a single-family detached house is built, West by the golf course number 1 of Vilamoura, and finally North by a small public green space. Features of this site are the descending topography on the North-West direction, the visual relationship with the golf course to the West and the mountainous horizon towards North, the strong presence and morphology of trees - pine forest - and finally the specificity of urban and landscape surrounding territory.
