Architecture office NOMO STUDIO has finished a nature-informed villa consisting of four identical rectangular volumes stepping down steep terrain on the island of Menorca. The house features locally sourced limestone, earthenware vaulted ceilings, and sandy-colored masonry and concrete, all blended into a mélange of soft airy tones. The façade keeps a solid-glazed equilibrium and uses heavy high thermal inertia materials, essential to ensure stable temperatures in mild-hot climates.

This Spanish holiday home is composed of simple rectangular volumes displaced on the floor to create a dynamic aesthetic despite the limited space of the plot. The striated concrete walls cut by continuous window openings define this villa as a combination of horizontal stripes alternating between solid and glass.

Ses Menorquines consists of a community of four summer villas overlooking the Mediterranean Sea from the north coast of Menorca island, Spain. Each house is slightly rotated in a fanned out setting in order to maximize the sea views and create privacy between them. The inspiration for the dwellings’ facades was taken from traditional vernacular architecture, with wholly whitewashed walls and pitch roofs. However, an interesting contrast is created by introducing contemporary elements such as large, glazed openings, sharp edges or flush, integrated furniture.

Bridge House is located in Coves Noves, a residential area in the north-east coast of Minorca island, Spain. Its generous plot of 2400sqm allows the dwelling to stretch horizontally to capture the surrounding’s best landscape views. At the same time, its rotating volumes create surprising interior spaces and never repeating outlooks. Based on the assembly of squared and pentagonal plans, these small polyhydric volumes stack and hover over the existing landscape with playful lightness. Their bridge-like composition gives the house its name. Breaking down the program into smaller units seemed a more respectful way to place a large program onto the site. The outer terraces and pool are designed as a direct extension of the indoor plan, following its same geometries and keeping the vast majority of the plot untouched.

The house is located in Coves Noves, on the northeast part of Minorca island, Spain, on a plot of 2600 sqm. The whole urbanization is built on a slope which gives each house a breathtaking sea view. However this specific plot, located on the top, also has a beautiful view towards Monte Toro, the highest mountain on the island. This inland view is moreover protected from further developments since it is classified as a protected green area.
