The new addition to the Eden Project series will focus on reimaging health and wellbeing by taking inspiration from the landscape of Morecambe Bay, a natural estuary south of the Lake District. Similar to the rest of the attractions, a series of shell-like structures will host the main exhibition and recreational spaces.

The Ledge House clients asked us to design a new home that would resonate with the history of the Connecticut Valley, include a material palette that is environmentally friendly, and works with the challenging site on a large rock ledge. We removed an existing cabin that had been expanded in unsuccessful ways over time by a previous owner; we were able to reuse the cabin’s foundation (which saved money and reduced construction waste) & add to it to simplify the footprint of the building while amplifying the program. The new footprint moved the house closer to an existing boulder- a prehistoric “glacial erratic” that was deposited along with the ledge hundreds of thousands of years ago when the glaciers formed the Appalachian Mountains.

Artificial landscapes of the Saint Lawrence River
The project’s conceptual narrative for this private home is based on a critical analysis of its surrounding. The narrative calls for a broader approach to architecture as an unstable figure between landscape and art. The area of the city of Cornwall (Ontario) has been dramatically modified in the mid-XXth Century with the construction of the great St Lawrence Seaway, which would open up the river to commercial navigation and allow new power dams to be implemented.

Leaving Manhattan behind, homeowner Betty Spence decided to build her dream house on a rugged piece of land in the Housatonic River Valley, in the agricultural town of Cornwall, Connecticut—a Feng Shui-informed retreat utilizing natural materials in harmony with its surroundings; a composition of simple modern lines and bold colors. After a false start with an architect who turned out not to share her vision and part of the foundation already poured, the task was challenging.

Unlike the previously featured Vanna Venturi House, Peter Eisenman's House VI includes disorientation in the work without the concept of relating it to the traditional home. The house is, in fact, anything but what one would consider a conventional house. Eisenman, one of the New York Five, designed the house for Mr. and Mrs. Richard Frank between 1972-1975 who found great admiration for the architect's work despite previously being known as a "paper architect" and theorist. By giving Eisenman a chance to put his theories to practice, one of the most famous, and difficult, houses emerged in the United States.
