The project revives the courtyard typology as an organizing element, reinterpreting it through a contemporary logic that prioritizes inward-facing domestic life, passive environmental control, and a contained, private spatial experience.

The commission for this project came from the other side of the world. The owner, a Uruguayan based in Australia, sought to build a home for use as his temporary residence while in the country, a place to rest and host family and friends. The challenge was to design, develop, and construct this home solely through video calls. The premise was clear: a house highly connected to the outdoors, with minimal alterations to the topography and flora of the land, and fully completed by his arrival.

Chihuahua's largest urban center is Ciudad Juárez, an industrial hub situated on the U.S.- Mexico border right across from El Paso, Texas. Throughout the years, Juarez's economic landscape has been dominated by the maquilladora industry and, thanks to the crime wave between 2008-2012, it earned a spot on the list of the world's most violent cities.

This house is located in the historic center of Chihuahua City, in north-central Mexico. This district displays a deteriorated urban fabric due to the demolition of a great number of old buildings being replaced by surface parking lots. The population has migrated to the fringes leaving an empty housing stock. The project was aware of the importance of both the restoration and integration of architectures while demonstrating the possibilities of contemporary housing in the urban center.
