This apartment unit is located on the 17th floor of an 18-story residential building. This is also the highest floor accessible by the elevator. Neighbors of the 18th floor must use the staircase at the corner to reach their homes. So, although it is a penultimate floor, it feels as if it is at the very top. Looking out from the window, tucked away behind trees, the embassy compound stretches across two city blocks, its low structures crouching close to the ground and barely visible. The nearest high-rises retreat to Sanlitun Street, about 1.5 kilometers away. With no obstructions, the room is bathed in dazzling sunlight all year round, and it also enjoys breezes filtered through the dense canopy of trees in the embassy district.

Designed by 2Portzamparc, the China National Convention Center Phase II in Beijing is a major convention facility with exhibition and reception halls to host future international conferences and summits of heads of state. The vast building is characterized by its sweeping curved shape and a facade with multiple openings, a poetic evocation of birds taking flight. Beijing is a city defined by its central axis—from the historic spine that begins at the Forbidden City to its Olympic-era northern extension. Along this line, the China National Convention Center emerges as a key point of continuity and renewal. Officially inaugurated in 2025, The China National Convention Center Phase II (hereinafter referred to as CNCC II), marks the northern culmination of this axis and serves as both a functional expansion of Phase I and a symbolic renewal.

This project began at the end of the pandemic, which also led directly to the choice of this small empty site. Our thought stream went along these lines: The epidemic has brought cataclysmic changes to the lives of a great many people, and if even face-to-face breathing hides potential danger, then what does it really mean to "have a cup of coffee together"?

Because the noodle restaurant is located in the most inside of Jidian Yuan, the client named it "inside" in Chinese. The project is close to the south gate of Beijing Jidian Yuan, surrounded by the old residential areas. Compared with the strong commercial atmosphere on the north side, the "life vitality " is the main theme spreading around: migrant workers on their way back and forth, students running after school, old man enjoying the cool in the shade... This new restaurant was incubated by a Chinese female chef from Michelin Restaurant. Noodlology, as noodle + (-ology), shows the chef's study and consideration of noodle flavor as a discipline—to maintain the texture of Chinese noodle while integrating the excellent flavor of other countries.

MEWE is a media enterprise, whose " Weirdo Talk " is a well-known talk show in China. Founder Ma Dong hopes that through a bold creative space, the team can brainstorm here and deliver inspiration. Some specific scenes are needed to combine with the daily creative output, including an activity hall where many people can share with each other, and some meeting rooms that can be divided flexibly and closed for brainstorming and discussion.

Just like animals in migration, we’ve flooded into Taikoo Li, which is home to commerce. It is different from the Hutong-style way of life, so we’ve decided to evolve ourselves in a different designing thought.
