Commonwealth Association of Architects 2026 Awards: Environmental Impact, Social Impact & Lifetime Achievement Award

The Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) is pleased to launch its 2026 Awards Programme, inviting architects from across the Commonwealth to submit work that demonstrates significant contributions to addressing contemporary global challenges including climate change, rapid urbanisation, biodiversity loss, and social inequality. Aligned with the CAA's charter objectives to maximise the contribution by architects to the well-being of society, the awards programme recognises projects and individuals whose work advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while demonstrating exceptional design quality and measurable impact.

This year, the professional practice category encompasses the following awards:

MQ Studio / CAA

The golden flowing river contrasted with soft misty clouds located at Beijing world trade center, a hair salo; MQ studio has been designed and construction completed by CAA at the end of August 2018.

A Hutong Home Renovation / CAA

The project is situated at the main house in Qingping Hutong, Beijing; known locally as a da-za-yuan, which translates as "big messy courtyard shared by several houses". The owner’s parents both live in the property, suffer from Alzheimer disease, which their mother being wheelchair bound. This meant that keeping the traditional Chinese courtyard house, exploring the concept of co-living between the young and elderly, and designing a comfortable home, all within a limited living space was the main objective. The project answers the questions which China has in accommodating an increasingly aging population.
