Promoted by the Gran Teatre del Liceu in collaboration with the Port of Barcelona, the project is conceived as a second venue for the <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/historic">historic institution</a>, expanding its artistic and civic role while strengthening its international presence. Bringing together a group of internationally recognized and locally rooted practices, the <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/shortlist">shortlist</a> underscores the project's global relevance, with the winning proposal expected to be announced in autumn 2026.</p>]]>

Organized by BILBAO Ría 2000, the competition invited participants to submit proposals for a space along the banks of the Nervion River that Baracaldo residents could utilize. Currently, the majority of Galindo Este (Urban-Galindo) is developed, however, space along the riverbanks provided a number of opportunities for growth. The goal of the contest was to lay out an integral design that would blend with and build on the already-existing space around it. </p>]]>

After receiving 387 proposals from 56 countries, the jury has selected the architects <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/office/burgos-garrido-arquitectos">Burgos &amp; Garrido Arquitectos</a> and <a href="http://www.plataformaarquitectura.cl/cl/office/llama-urban-design?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">LLAMA Urban Design</a> as the winners of the competition, beating out entries from other top architects including <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/zaha-hadid-architects/">Zaha Hadid Architects</a> and <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/alberto-campo-baeza/">Alberto Campo Baeza</a>.</p>]]>
