Built on a sloped lot with a stunning view of the Serra da Moeda, the social area of the house is oriented toward the front portion of the property. For this reason, the kitchen and dining area occupy the central space of the layout, in an integrated space with a double-height ceiling. The rest of the house is organized around the living area, with special attention to integration with the external leisure areas.

In the Loft Between the Trees, there is total integration with nature, with little distinction between inside and outside. From the bed, you sleep seeing the moon and stars, and wake up seeing the birds and butterflies in the garden. The advantages of using steel structures are diverse, including greater ease in obtaining free spans and structural balances - as is the case of the glass corner at the head of the bed in this project, which allows a complete view of the outside without obstacles.

The Maxita Yano – Claudia Andujar Gallery, part of Inhotim Contemporary Art Museum, was designed to shelter the works of the swiss-born Brazilian photographer Claudia Andujar. The building is located on a densely wooded slope, accessed by trails amongst the vegetation. The topography defines a small promontory that reveals the surrounding landscape. This location informed the design strategy concerning its placement: the higher portion of the site was redesigned to receive the embedded volume, granting it an unobtrusive aspect. Contrarily, the rest of the building was divided in three blocks projecting over the slope, each one oriented toward different sight of the woods.

The Gallery Lygia Pape was designed after a demand from the curatorial team at Inhotim to have a building for one specific installation by Brazilian artist Lygia Pape, Ttéia. The dimensions of the gallery were pre-established by the installation: a cube of 21x21x6m. The building should also be closed and dark, as Ttéia is a light piece. The site was relatively small if compared to the size of the requested building. It was a plateau in the slope of a hill, approached by a narrow ascending road in a forest.

I found even the journey along the road from Belo Horizonte to Inhotim, in Minas Gerais, deeply affecting. As we drove through the villages to Brumadinho alongside the railway tracks that carry metal from the mines, everything seemed to be covered in a reddish, ferrous dust that gave it all the look of an aged sepia photograph. I noticed several garages where dilapidated cars were being repaired, and the gaping wounds in the mountainsides between the lush, wild vegetation. I had those images in mind when I entered the garden. Suddenly, as if a perfect oasis after all those tortuous roads, we saw Inhotim: a laboratory for botany and art, a place intended to encourage education and debate.
