Rooted in nostalgia yet shaped by curiosity, the brief emerged from the clients' emotional connection to traditional homes of Tamil Nadu—spaces remembered for their warmth, breathability, and effortless relationship with light, shade, and everyday rituals. At the same time, they sought to move away from the rigidity of typical concrete houses, aspiring instead for a home that feels softer, calmer, and deeply connected to nature.

We borrowed these trees into the design, their presence extending into the home's narrative.

Drawing from Egyptian cave formations, subterranean passages, and ancient excavation logics, the project reinterprets primordial spatiality through contemporary material innovation and an experiential architectural language. The experience unfolds through the concept store, which acts as the first threshold of the "cave." Curated products are displayed within carved niches, recessed bands, and sculpted voids.

In 2025, India's most consequential design projects unfolded largely out of sight. While public attention gravitated toward museums, cultural landmarks, and visually arresting façades, the architecture that most decisively shaped daily life existed underground, at the city's edges, or inside secured compounds few citizens would ever enter. Sewage networks were rebuilt, flood tunnels bored beneath dense neighborhoods, substations lifted above floodplains, and data centers multiplied across peri-urban landscapes. These were not peripheral works of engineering; they were the spatial systems that allowed Indian cities to remain functional through record heatwaves, erratic monsoons, and accelerating urban growth.

With rising densities and shifting family dynamics, architecture must respond to both spatial constraints and changing lifestyles. The home balances tradition and modernity, offering a design that grows with the family while holding onto memories of the past.

Tucked within a quiet, gated neighborhood in Bangalore, The Long House is a four-bedroom residence distinguished by a striking 24-foot cantilever. Designed for a client who recently returned from the United States, the home reflects a strong commitment to minimalism and purposeful living. The brief was clear and uncompromising: create a space that is direct, efficient, and intentional—built with only what is necessary, nothing more, nothing less.

Located in the Sunny Brooks community of Bengaluru, the Split-House by Collage Architecture Studio is designed for a family of four. It brings together nature and privacy through a simple but powerful design idea: a central split. Rather than dividing, this split connects the house with light, air, and greenery, while clearly separating public and private areas.
