Introduction — The redevelopment of the Jean Dauger sports complex is an integral element in considering Bayonne's green belt. Reclaimed from ground originally used for military manœuvres and occupied by moats at the foot of the ramparts, this green space, with pleasure gardens and open-air sports facilities, has benefited from its historic and cultural status, giving it a sense of significance and protecting it from invasive urban development.

Through its architecture and the way it interacts with the site, the headquarters of Office 64 is an imposing monument as you enter the town. It is both discrete and significant, re-interpreting the codes of public architecture. The building flows in tangent with the road and develops distinctly prism-like volumes which emphasize the road’s outline.

The « Agglomeration Côte Basque Adour: ACBA» building is an administrative building housing facilities for political and economical local territory developing in south west of France. The existing facility built in the 80’s and already extended in the 90’s was lacking office’s spaces and a proper auditorium for boardroom venues. The competition project for the rehabilitation and extension was due to answer different objectives:

-	Provide the administration with extra working spaces
-	Offer a new and enlarged, fully equipped, auditorium for boardrooms.
-	Re-enforce the dynamism of the “ACBA” through a contemporary extension.

It is a project of great importance for Bayonne, not just due to its sheer size (some 70.000 m2 of built surface area) but also because it is the new gateway to the city. The brief is divided between two city blocks that contain social and free market housing, a shopping centre, a hotel, a small area of offices and car parks, and the central part that joins the two blocks, channelling the flow of car and pedestrian transit.

In order to design and build architecture that not only responds to its context but also to mans need for function, the careful study of the topography and surrounding vegetation lent itself to the exact placement and setting out of the project where the timber cabins intertwine themselves with the surrounding woods. A study of the site, the views and the sunpath, the underlying desire to avoid any potential overlooking and the idea to hide the residential parking requirements beneath the apartments meant that a sort of visual ‘ordered chaos’ leant itself to the physical disposition, density and juxtaposition of the buildings.
