When Hubert Klumpner and Diego Ceresuela Wiesmann from ETH Zurich and Urbanthinktank_next, along with Alejandro Restrepo from UPB Medellín, became involved in the design of the Villas de San Pablo Cultural Center, the challenge was not simply to construct an urban facility in a new social housing neighborhood, but to formulate an infrastructure capable of supporting an urban process marked by displacement, migration, and the need to rebuild community.

What urban and social transformations do our cities require today? How can urban planning and design contribute to improving the experience of their inhabitants in urban spaces? As Andreea Cutieru explains, urban acupuncture refers to the improvement of social and urban issues through precise interventions capable of revitalizing specific areas of cities and consolidating urban planning strategies. The +VIDA program represents a comprehensive strategy for urban and social transformation in territories, strategically focused on vulnerable populations in the Colombian Caribbean. It encourages the collective construction of cities through the exchange of knowledge, intelligence, and expertise, with the aim of transforming the habitat in an integrated manner.

Within the Latin American and Caribbean region, it has been recorded that at least 25% of the population lives in informal settlements. Given that their expansion is one of the major problems afflicting these cities, a project is presented, supported by the IDB, which proposes how new technologies are capable of contributing to the identification and detection of these areas in order to intervene in them and help reduce urban informality.

Designed from an urban, practical and avant-garde identity perspective, the Gran Malecón in Barranquilla, is the most recent project of Diseños y Conceptos. The project is born from the necessity to reestablish the relationship between the city and the Magdalena River, a link that was lost and is a key element for the socio-cultural and economic development of one of the most important cities in Colombia. The river that surrounds the city of Barranquilla, is the most important one of Colombia. Located in the North of the country, this city is considered as the cradle of the Colombian Caribbean identity, in large part, due to its location near to the delta of the Magdalena River in the Caribbean Sea, an ideal context for immigrant’s arrival.

On a college campus, the architecture and the landscape should merge into a recognition and enjoyment of human capabilities, even more so in sports and cultural activities. In that effort, the DAE building (Student Affairs) at ITESM Aguascalientes Campus, proposes to create a platform that highlights this experience by integrating diverse activities, all contained in a large box, a container of talent, a monoblock with an envelope of effervescent tone showing the cumulus of spirits through the passage of light. 960 circular perforations are transformed in the course of the day, giving a dynamic target to the architectural static object.
