Bandung's high altitude and mountainous surroundings provide a cooler climate than most Indonesian cities, a condition that directly informs the building's spatial and environmental strategies.

Tanatap Heritage Garden is a small architectural intervention that transformed a once-mediocre vertical building, which stood as a barrier in Braga's heritage shophouse, into a creative melting pot that celebrates its historical significance. The project's main challenge from the outset was to apply primary methods for the adaptive reuse of an existing Dutch heritage shophouse structure, converting it into a restaurant and coffee shop situated in the middle of a block on Braga Street, Bandung. The shed, originally a warehouse, provided us with the opportunity to work with many original elements inherited from its previous uses, such as existing frames, walls, and facades.

Located in southern Bandung with a fairly dense residential area, YT House is a residence that emphasizes the owner's desire for privacy. The house, located in the corner of the residential complex, uses trees to maintain the privacy of its owner so that what is visible from the outside is only a fence and trees. On the other hand, from the inside, the outdoor view will immediately focus on the trees, not directly facing the street in the front.

This synthesis has guided Jedda's direction on creating their debut collection in parallel with the process of their studio building.

Established in 2022, Tanulo Coffee follows the urban development of the Mekar Wangi area of Bandung. This project is located in a residential area with multi-story rental houses and a pocketed plot of land, which has an area of around 560m2. The two main buildings created with the main function of a bar and meeting room are placed in the back area with the aim of providing visitors with experiences while walking to the building, which passes the seating area and also the complementary garden.

Overlooking the greeneries, WA House brings its residences closer to nature by blurring the boundaries between the interior and the outside. Entering the house is a journey itself. As we stepped into the entrance, the ripples of water from the koi pond led us to the main living area. The stairs to the upper floor direct its residents and visitors alike to the open space where a massive glass window presents us with beautiful scenery.

A project born from an open brief and a desire to create a unique sanctuary in the midst of urban chaos, Byasa stands out with its narrow face and unpredictable wide pocket area. This cafe presents a rare opportunity to design a space that offers breathing room in the midst of a hectic environment. The genesis of this project lies in the exploration of creating lasting memories for its customers. The design focuses on infusing the space with comfort and healing, leaving a lasting impression on all who visit. One key aspect is to create lasting memories through sensory experiences. Byasa is designed to engage all the senses, defining a series of spaces that create an integrated experience and lead visitors on a sequential journey through space, from the moment they approach the facade to the time they sit down to enjoy their food.

Grande House / Patio Livity

The Grande house, with its sprawling 56-meter façade, stood as a canvas for architectural creativity while also tackling security and privacy hurdles. Rather than opting for imposing barriers, we took a layered approach to manage sunlight and privacy, employing perforated metal plates, sun-screen louvers, stone walls, and lush vegetation. Each room was carefully crafted to encourage natural airflow and maximize daylight, striking a balance between openness and seclusion. Plus, we wanted to make sure the house looked grand from the get-go, hence the emphasis on horizontal design elements. Our design journey had its fair share of challenges, especially navigating the urban landscape with its privacy, noise, and dust concerns. To tackle these, we came up with a dual-fence strategy: a tall fence facing the slum area and a creatively layered one for the roadside facade, offering security without compromising on aesthetics.

Jae Jiwa Jae Kasinda Bungalows / RDMA

Located around 45 minutes from the city center of Bandung, Indonesia, nestled on top of a sloping contour overlooking a valley surrounded by lush hills, the Jiwa villa was designed to be an escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Various species of wood, concrete bricks, and black-painted steels are chosen as the primary materials for the three-story villa in order to blend in with the surrounding environment as well as give guests the chance to break away from their daily routines and unwind. The villa was designed to accommodate three renting scenarios where guests can book the large studio room on the first floor; rent two junior suites on the third floor along with living space on the second; or book all three floors at once to accommodate larger groups.

Established in 2022, MUTU Loka existence has taken part by honoring the progression of Cilaki 33 in juxtaposing a narrative of an obsolete contemporary lifestyle. Due to the early 2020s pandemic, people started to acknowledge the presence of open space in communal space. The core of the history lies in the main building located at the front area, where once ‘Tiloejane’ was sculpted to mark the identity of Cilaki 33.

The site itself is a contoured hook formed in a small corner pinched between its two surrounding neighbors. The residential is to be planned as a retirement house occupied by four people including their children.

Microlibrary MoKa (Modular Kayu) was developed with the idea of cost efficiency, and prefabrication, to be delivered as a flat-packed building system on-site to be assembled with minimal impact in a short time. The building modules are based on plywood boards as a basic measurement to avoid cutting and wasting materials as much as possible. Several of the modules can be arrayed and arranged to form larger configurations according to functional needs.

Mind the gap, appearing massively with concrete facade impression interspersed with lines on the fence and the walls with gaps. Visually, the gaps become the analogy for pause, breathing, and release. The gaps function as the entrance for direct sunlight and air to circulate and also reduce surrounding noise.
