        <![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.archstorming.com?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">Archstorming</a>, in support of the NGO PROVS and UNHCR, is launching an architecture <a href="/tag/competition">competition</a> in Mayukwayukwa, the oldest refugee camp in Africa. Working in the field of emergency architecture, the competition will be looking for designs for a new Sustainable Development Center to be built in the camp, a space where refugees will be able to carry out projects in areas such as health, education or construction. Special attention will be paid to the use of sustainable materials and easy-to-build construction techniques, with the ultimate goal of enabling refugees to use the method learned when building their own houses. So dire is this shortage that the nation currently carries a 3 million housing deficit coupled with a 200.000 unit annual demand. Over seventy percent of its urban residents live in unplanned and unserviced informal settlements.</p>
<p>With that in mind, Archstorming is looking for a housing design to be implemented not only in Tanzania, but also in other African countries where housing is an increasing problem.</p>

The call for entries asked participants to redefine the traditional <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/category/zoo">zoo</a> and transform the space from something that is not only an exhibition of animals, but also an educational tool, and a place for research and conservation.
