A Wall House is organized around a single line: a wall that spans 80 meters across the entire lot, from the access to the navigable canal. This element defines the structure, organizes the program, and provides unity to the project. On one side, the technical aspects: service areas, functional circulation, and systems. On the other, the living experience — pool, lounge, landscape.

Surrounded by a dense forest in Rio de Janeiro's Atlantic Forest, this summer retreat opens out to the sea of Angra dos Reis and some of its 365 islands in the archipelago, considered one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. It was in this region that, decades ago, Paulo Jacobsen began working with wooden structures. Initially motivated by the easiness in which this material could be transported through coastal waters, wood is nowadays one of the major design hallmarks of his practice. Therefore, it is amidst this abundant nature that the AEA House lightly touches the ground and incorporates the topography. Respecting the location of a previously existing house, this project sought to use natural elements that could create an architectural space in tune with the surroundings.

The implementation of this project was determined by the property’s privileged landscape, located on Brazil’s Emerald Coast. Its main entry access is given through vertical circulation in natural stone, set about a historic fig tree. The construction concept entailslanding over a plateau and developing across axis of pathways established by the project’s sectorization.Divided into specific areas, the architectural program delineates open spaces oriented to the amplest view. A pivoting wooden totem with asymbolic graphic schemewarmly welcomes home both owner and guests through the main central axis.

The NB residence was the first project to renovate a house located in Frade's condominium, in Angra dos Reis, in Rio de Janeiro. This project took place after the inauguration of Hotel Fasano, another design developed by our office, which will be completed by the future launch of 85 residential units, divided into 3 architectural sets.

With great overhangs, mashrabiya panels and glass sheets, this house was commissioned by a family that lives in Rio de Janeiro and spend most of their free time with friends in Angra dos Reis archipelago. Their main request was to be constantly connected to the ocean.
