Overlooking Victoria's Southern Ocean near Anglesea surf beach, this minimal two-storey house draws on the simple modernism of 1950s–60s coastal homes. Designed for a couple with extended family, it balances retreat with shared experience.

The house at Anglesea has been rebuilt with integrity, keeping the soul of its mid-century origins intact. A three-bedroom, two-bathroom alterations and additions project, the original home was charming but impractical. With poor insulation and awkward add-ons, the best option was to sensitively rebuild, replacing sections with better quality.

Point Roadknight is a two-storey cedar-clad family holiday house in Anglesea with a dominant upper level overlooking a tennis court that has been enjoyed and much loved by the owners’ family since its construction in 1988. The next generation of children has placed greater demands on the house and the owners saw this as an opportunity to add second living space, create some spatial efficiencies, renew and insulate the building envelope and refurbish the existing fittings and finishes.

Exposed and in a harsh, salty environment, materials that weather well over time and require minimal maintenance were key selection criteria.

For Andrew Maynard Architects' latest design, a holiday home in Anglesea VIC, the clients' requirement was simple: more space for their growing and aging family. With the need of the client always in mind, Andrew Maynard Architects set out to create a multi-generational vacation home whose "versatility...allows it to be inhabited simultaneously by all members of the extended family...The design is rigorously addressed at different scales, allowing there to be a certain level of connection and interaction throughout while also providing smaller zones where solace can be found."
