These homes are rarely static. They expand and contract with occupation, shifting between intense communal use and private life. It is within this layered condition of climate, community, and absence that House Between Walls in Rewatra finds its ground.

Set within a 125-acre organic farm in Bilasya, Kathwada, two creative practices, hand-painted ceramics and bespoke speaker design, converge. The result is a design gallery that is a layered, adaptable space and resists singular definition. Its architecture reflects this plurality through exposed brick, concrete, and steel to negotiate the intersection of material and spatial dualities. The robust external mass sits in contrast to an internal tectonic lightness, recalling Henri Labrouste's Bibliothèque nationale de France. This duality informed the foundational approach of the project, balancing nostalgia and innovation while sensitively reconciling a brief for an exposed material palette. It draws from Brutalism and contemporary industrial design, allowing the gallery to hold space for both public display and private creative practice, and thus generate a layered and tactile dialogue between the built form, wood-crafted speakers, and vibrant ceramics.

Our urban landscapes are undergoing a rapid transformation, pressured by burgeoning populations and increasing demands on city infrastructure. To address these escalating challenges, urban planners continually revise zoning regulations. In Delhi, for instance, a significant regulatory change introduced mandatory stilt parking on small urban lots with four habitable floors above. Gurugram, a satellite city, subsequently adopted similar amendments. A key distinction, however, lies in the underlying demand: Delhi's housing demand is genuine, whereas Gurugram's is largely speculative, evidenced by numerous vacant lots across its neighborhoods.

Initially catering to a thousand students, the institute's rapid growth has called for continuous expansion, and the adaptable masterplan has continuously evolved to accommodate a flourishing student body that now numbers over 8,000. This growth mirrors the aspirations of the people of Salem and surrounding areas for upward mobility and diverse educational opportunities. IMK has been associated with the project since its inception, and the recent additions to this continuously growing hub are the Sona College's Admin and Library Block. These have been collectively designed as modern landmarks symbolizing the college's commitment to progress. Designed as "Stepping Blocks to the Future", the two buildings stand as a beacon of architectural innovation in Salem. The distinct facade of the Library Block is the new face of the Sona College of Technology. It has been conceptualized as a symbol of progression, and the building features a stepped facade with striking designs and materials, culminating in a clock tower offering panoramic views of the city.
