The new SG Kindergarten and Nursery was constructed by the consolidation and privatization of four dilapidated public preschools in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture. The area has been known as a hub of cultural exchange that prospered due to the waterway transportation across the Tone River during the Edo period. The distinct building type, Machiya (traditional townhouse), and townscapes from that specific period have been carefully preserved and designated as a Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings.

This is a renovation project for an aging kindergarten with a capacity of 240 children located in Moji, Kitakyushu City. The site is situated in a residential area surrounded by the vast sea to the north and magnificent mountains to the south, it is blessed with nature. Particularly, influenced by the nearby "Midori Valley," the kindergarten's playground features a more than 3-meter difference in elevation. The existing site has been cherished by children as an attractive play area with natural playground equipment and abundant trees, serving as a space for symbiosis and learning. While carefully respecting this environment, the design blurs the boundaries between the inside and outside by bringing the external nature into the interior.

The firmness of the solid wall of such a building type has been peacefully protecting people's lives and work since ancient times. In this kindergarten, "enclosure" is arranged in various ways in the hope of protecting the children's daily development. The "enclosure" and many other parts of the building provide an environment that motivates children to use both their minds and bodies to thrive.

This project is a plan to build new facilities with "child development support" and "childcare support" functions on a site along the front road of an existing nursery. By creating two places of support in the same location and building along the road from the existing nursery, the goal is to encourage a community of various users and become a place to nurture children in the community.

This nursery, holding a maximum of 117 children was built in Fuji Yoshida. The site with more than 10,000 sqm is rich in nature with lakes and trees. With the owner’s educational policy of “Play to the fullest in the nature of Fuji Yoshida, in rain or snow, even getting covered with mud.”, the project utilized nature where children can live comfortably in a green rich site.

This is a nursery reconstructed on a sloping site in Mito, Ibaraki. For many years, the old building consisted of an insipid, flat playground and building with little connection, despite the surrounding terrain with elevation changes. The reconstruction was based on the concept of a nursery on the earth that nurtures children’s bodies and minds, with a varied playground that makes use of the difference in elevation of the surrounding terrain, and a building that is connected to the playground to encourage three-dimension play.
