Liberation Museum of Manisa (MKM) was conceived as a memory space to convey the civilian popular movement that developed independently of central authority in the region of Manisa between 1918 and 1923. The design merges the traces of the surviving load-bearing masonry, stone, and brick structures post-fire with Manisa's local brick tradition, which stretches back to archaic periods. The 14 independent brick chambers, constructed entirely using the load-bearing technique, present different historical moments as a sequential experience.

The project area is in Suluca village in Lapseki, at the northern end of Çanakkale province in Turkey. Ergin House is the residence of a small family, situated 500 meters away from the Dardanelles Strait which connects Aegean Sea and Marmara Sea. Designing single family homes is one of the most challenging subjects of architecture. During the design phase, a close relationship should formed between the designer and the user. Although the house is a small building, the designer should increase the level of understanding with the user, spend an intense effort and attention.

“Goat House” is located in the mid-Aegean region of Turkey, in a farming village, 5 km to the sea. The livelihood in this 20 household village depends on agriculture, greenhouse, and beekeeping. The owner of the house fondly remembers her childhood memories of the landscape and the cliffs where the goats wandered.

The archeological site of Troy has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 because of its outstanding universal value as a site that has witnessed various civilizations for over 4000 years and has been a significant influence on the development of the European civilization, arts, and literature over two millennia. Museum of Troy, located 800 meters from the site, is honoring this heritage and is a medium to tell the rich history of Troy in relation to its natural, cultural, artistic and archeological context. The museum building was acquired as a result of a national architectural design contest held by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey in 2011. The museum was opened to visitors in October 2018 as a result of 7 years of work. At the same time, 2018 was declared by the ministry as the “Year of Troy”.

Chosen as one of the five finalists in MOMA’s Young Architectural Program (YAP), Yalin Architectural Design’s proposal ‘IM-Debris’ focuses on how Istanbul and all the other cities in the world have to come up with local solutions to their own problems in global standards. The main purpose of this design is to be within the rubble which we are usually used to observe from a distance, to form a place with every possible material that is left from a construction and to have the visitors re-discover where it came from, in a place designed by it in the first place. More images and architects’ description after the break.
