During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, a young man shut down his start-up company Someet, a platform that has organized tens of thousands of self-initiated interest offline activities for young people. Then he decided to move from Beijing to Shaxi, hoping to live freely and settle down here through this building. This is a spring-like all year round Chinese ancient town, people have lived and thrived here for over a thousand years. The Bai people have lived here for generations. Here, anyone who can walk can dance and anyone who can speak can sing. All of he people often hold gatherings.

It is a small village on the suburbs of Beijing with mountains to the north and south. A river called Jiudu River runs through it. Nestled in the southern area is the primary cluster of homes, while our project site is north of the river, surrounded by a sizeable trout house, a home party house and a local village house.

Courtyard House in the North Cashijiang / xian Architects

The site is located on a secluded corner of Cashikou village，which is located within a mountainous area embraced by a forest of chestnut trees. Walking towards the north one could reach the Great Wall and cliff inscriptions. The Cashikou Great Wall lies on the peak of the north-eastern mountain, which you can see from Cashijiang.
