Evoking dynamics
There is nothing static about the aura of the KTM motorcycle brand. This can also be clearly seen in their motto “Ready to Race”. That is exactly the feeling you get at the KTM Motohall, which opened in Spring 2019 at their headquarters in Mattighofen. Everything about the building is linked to and evocative of motion. It is a lofty space of 8,300 m2 with no steps. It takes you over three levels, with a showroom, an event hall, a restaurant, a shop, a snack bar, and its own orbital paths. It is an exciting new building, wrapped in curved metal bands that transcend the right angles of its surroundings.

The community’s centre consists of buildings which surround a green park on three sides. On its fourth side, the park opens up towards agricultural fields and meadows. The premises lie on the edge of the park where its green spaces turn into agriculture. Keeping the valuable urban quality of the continuous green space demands a certain concept in which the building is not to be seen as such, so as not to disturb the geographical connection between the two green spaces.

Due to the location in the city of Linz and restrictions on the premise boundaries, the voestalpine steel company needs to pursue alternative growth strategies. An important method of achieving this is through the strategic concentration of facilities and processes on the premises. For this reason the idea developed to concentrate the existing scattered parking spaces, which use up a lot of space, to a centrally located car park. Strategically positioning the car park has proved to be a prototypical solution when considering transformational processes of industrial premises that have limited possibilities for geographic extension.

Its outer and inner rooms are designed as a seamless transition into the golf course and become one with the surrounding sports grounds. The inner court offers possibilities for multi-functional activities in a sheltered atmosphere - as a garden for visitors as well as a location for events and award ceremonies. Towards the south west the court opens up into a covered terrace as far as the driving range. On the northern side, it serves as a reception area for players returning from the 18th Hole. The inner court presents itself as the "19th Hole" and the club house as the "19thGreen" of the golf course and they resemble the Start as well as the Finish in the movement of club members and visitors.
