A sculptor’s haven, hiding traces of her love for objects in raw space. Pallares House and Studio is the result of a work inspired by the materiality of Edna Pallares sculptures combined with the necessity to bring adequate light into the different spaces. Composed of three volumes separated each by a courtyard, the project intends to have a surprising spatial sequence, at the time, the limits that contain the space, are rough and allow an introspective feeling, where solemnity is essential for the production of Edna´s work.

The project arises from the Municipal Urban Development Plan (PMDU) developed by our office, in which it was agreed in a participatory manner that the first project of the newly named Magic Town would have to be a trigger for local economies and the art of Tlaxco. This has a decentralized management model, in which each of the commercial premises is for artisans from different towns of the municipality.

IDENTITY AND MATERIALITY: Mexicano Masaryk aims to bring back the authentic flavors of Mexican culinary tradition, recovering the memory of certain regions in Mexico trough the participation of local cooks named Mayoras. This is why we decided to confront the materiality of an existing building with new natural materials in the most honest way. By using volcanic rock flooring with different varnish treatments, and the use of brass, we tried to homogenize an already eclectic construction.
