Valaya is a Sanskrit word that refers to a protective circle, something that surrounds, holds, and safeguards what lies within. At Valaya, architecture unfolds through this idea of protection. In a time when houses are often driven by image and visual statements, Valaya begins with a more fundamental question: How can a home in today's climate remain open without becoming vulnerable? Valaya responds to Ahmedabad's realities, intense heat, and shifting light by placing climate back at the centre of architectural thinking. This is a return to responsibility. The south-west side of the site receives the maximum weather impact, while the north-east offers softer daylight and favourable airflow. These realities became the starting point of the project. The clients wanted a home that could remain connected to the outside, and full of light, while still offering privacy and shelter. Rather than treating climate as a constraint, the design allows it to guide decisions.

Nirmay (निर्मय) reflects purity and holistic well-being. Envisioned as a quiet sanctuary amidst the noise of urban life, it offers a way of living that is calm, conscious, and deeply connected to the land. Rooted in sustainability and ecological harmony, the design responds to both nature and the everyday rhythms of its inhabitants. The planning is guided by climatic factors—sun trajectory, wind patterns, and the surrounding ecosystem—ensuring an energy-efficient and climate-responsive design. Nirmay Villa evolves from its context, inhabitants, and environment, with geometry forming the foundation of the architecture, establishing a trinity of structure, form, and function. A key aspect of the design stems from the client's deep connection with farming, a tradition honored through the creation of a dedicated fruit orchard and organic farm on the Northern side of the plot. The home is built in harmony. maintaining a deep connection to the land it rises from.

INTENT: The idea is to create spaces that serve as a celebration of life within the home. Ethos and Design Concept - Architecture meets Zen in an Urban City. The Enso project, named after the Zen symbol for the circle, adopts a holistic architectural approach, integrating the building with nature's rhythms. It aims for a living space in sync with natural elements, focusing on light, shadow, and spatial flow. The villa is Designed based on plot size, sun trajectory, family needs, and climate; the architecture harmonizes plant life, water, sky, construction, and human interaction. The structure's sections are interlocked, optimizing space functionality for a cohesive entity. Biophilic urban living gives life back to the city. The home holistically integrates light, air, greenery, materials and views, through an architectural vocabulary that emanates serenity and harmony. The house is on a corner plot and sits alongside the internal road of a gated community, overlooking the landscape. The built volume and the layout design is ruled by the sun path integrating and allowing the free flow of natural light and air.

The antipodal requirements of privacy and togetherness drove the concept and development of this villa, which was to be the home of an extended family spanning three generations. With three couples and two children forming the members of the closely-knit unit, the design had to make room for seclusion and solitude, and shared areas that would allow congregations of different sizes. Inspiration for design can come from the most unexpected of places, and this one took off from that most fundamental building block of digital imagery — the pixel. And while this may be so, its spirit is rooted in nature, as the home emerged from an intent to embrace natural conditions, taking advantage of views, orientation, and form.

Screen House is a beautifully integrated development that houses a large family and various age groups. It comprises three discrete spaces, each one serving the needs of sub-sets of the unit, yet linked in spirit and design. The site is located facing north, with all other three sides abutting adjacent properties. Within this, the three main constituents — facing west, north, and east — are arranged in a C, encircling a central green courtyard that actually functions as a common space; an open-air living room. This is where the family congregates, to share stories, watch movies, read, and unwind.
