The essence of this family home lies in crafting an abode of serenity, flowing gracefully as an organic extension of the landscape. A retired professor of Bangla envisioned a home where she could spend her days in peaceful solitude while awaiting the annual visits of her daughters and grandchildren from abroad. At the heart of this vision lies a space designed for family connection, and continuing generational bonds. Her main criteria for the home centered around ample garden spaces and generous, airy interiors bathed in natural light, creating an environment that feels both expansive and intimately welcoming.

A monolithic pink concrete mosque finds its location at the edge of an existing waterbody amidst a fast-growing industrial area on the outskirts of Dhaka City. The mosque is designed as a Permeable Pavilion that establishes a deeper connection between water and land, which serves as both a spiritual and breathing space within an industrial compound. The owner of the industry wanted to build a mosque for the workers to commemorate the memory of his late mother in the hope of inducing softness within the harsh industrial area. This narrative inspires the architect to design the mosque as a spiritual-social space, enhancing mutual care and trust between the owner and the workers.

The approach to designing this was that of questioning the situation where inception of a residential multi-family development is mostly governed by sale-ability. A somewhat exemplary effort was made to motivate the developer to introduce some apparently unorthodox ideas, which in turn were rather sensibly appreciated. The intention also was to show that the local standards for functional planning and material inventory are somehow devoid of innovation. The effort was made to ‘break the mold’ of prevailing pattern for such developments and introduce ‘cutting-edge’ technology incorporated with novel functional planning in this context.
