Roots and Context. The "Mirador School La Jalquilla" project is located in San Ignacio, in the Ceja de Selva region, on the border with Ecuador, in Peru. This region, with an economy centered on coffee cultivation, faces significant challenges due to its isolation and resource scarcity. The project aims to revitalize local knowledge and traditions, integrating the rich biodiversity and Andean and Amazonian cultures into its proposal. It benefits more than 110 primary and secondary students, in addition to providing sports and public infrastructure for the community. The school stands as a comprehensive path that promotes educational development, fostering well-being, and strengthening ties with the natural and cultural environment.

The project: "Mencoriari Technological and Environmental Laboratory" is located in the native community of Mencoriari, in Peru’s central jungle. The project has created a complementary educational space that is an alternative to traditional classrooms. The proposal was developed through a classroom workshop and a space that preserves knowledge about plants and the forest that is thousands of years old. The beneficiaries and protagonists of the project are 58 students and 67 families from the community where the project is located, as well as 3 families from the surrounding communities. The project fuses architectural areas with pedagogical areas with the objective of promoting spaces adapted to the location. These spaces promote teaching which focuses on the value of the jungle and its environmental and cultural worth. The project also helps the school’s graduates be better prepared to take to local job offers.

Otica's native community is located on the banks of the Rio Tambo in the central jungle of Peru. The community already had a local communal space built entirely in concrete by the local government. However, this construction has gone into a state of disuse due to the lack of cultural presence and the absence of conditions of environmental comfort. That is why the community continued to need a meeting and gathering space.

Background
The native community of Jerusalen de Minaro is located in the district of Pangoa, in Peru’s central jungle. It is designated as a VRAEM zone, meaning its inhabitants are indigenous communities that were severely affected and displaced by the armed conflict of the 1990’s. Although the school functioned for about 40 years and more than 200 students attended, the conditions were precarious at best. The infrastructure consisted of temporary classrooms and the spaces did not meet the minimum comfort requirements necessary for proper educational activities.
