The starting point for the project was the unification of two lots that, together, resulted in 5,760 m² of open area. From this generous condition, an architectural and interior design project was developed to fully meet the desires and needs of a family native to the ABC region of São Paulo. Ultimately, the residence, named after the street where it is located, occupies 946 m².

The intense, predominantly corporate urban routine of a young couple from São Paulo was the starting point for their desire to build a countryside retreat — a place surrounded by nature where they could slow down, enjoy lighthearted days, and strengthen bonds with family and friends.

The desire for a summer home in the countryside led a couple from São Paulo to purchase a plot of land and begin designing a custom project from scratch — spacious, bold, and entirely personalized. However, while waiting for the new project, they decided to rent a house in a neighboring gated community. Living there, even temporarily, changed their plans completely; they fell in love with the area and redefined their goals.

The young couple approached Sala 03 Arquitetura through recommendations from friends and neighbors who had already built their homes with the firm in the same gated community. The plot was chosen for a specific feature: it is located across from a Permanent Preservation Area and next to a relatively large easement lane, which allows for a closer connection to nature without other houses blocking the views. The brief requested that this feature be prioritized in a house with enough suites to host family and friends, a beach tennis court positioned discretely from the street view, and a complete focus on the social and leisure areas.

The Albatroz House was designed to be the summer refuge for the couple and their two children. The family came to Sala 03 Architecture through other ongoing and finished projects in the gated neighborhood, where they recently acquired three lots, which were then unified and divided into 2. This strategy provided more usable space since the lots are on a slope, posing significant architectural challenges. The fact that the client owns a company specializing in the planning and construction of residential and commercial buildings, fast construction, and real estate developments, among others, provided him with great ease to understand and work with different ideas, materials, and solutions than the more usual ones found in houses with similar area, where cost usually becomes an impasse to the execution of more elaborate solutions.

The owners met our office through a sign in the condominium where they wanted to build their summer house, in the countryside of São Paulo, a city in Brazil. He’s a doctor, she’ s a fashion designer, a couple with a teenager daughter and the three of them with a project in their minds. They contacted the architects, and the connection was immediate. They are amazing people, with an exquisite taste and let the architects work freely to develop the project.
