This renovation project is an exemplary alternative to the all-too-common practice of demolition and reconstruction, which tends to replace complexity with standardized solutions. Here, the approach was to recover and transform, minimizing waste and giving new value to materials via preservation rather than replacement.

Baitridana Hut is the restoration of an old stone structure located at 1900m in the Orobic Alps of Valtellina, within the municipality of Albaredo per San Marco in the Sondrio Province. The Baitridana maggengo (alpine pasture) is characterized by steep terrain which forms a stunning natural backdrop for scattered ancient buildings, some in use as temporary residences and others partly abandoned.

"Built to Last” is a historical restoration project born of the desire to preserve the only remaining untouched building in a dense residential area marked by construction upheaval and architectural fakes. A building that, thanks to its distinct materiality and unequivocal typological features, can tell its rural story with honesty and pride.
