The power of the site - The Aubusson Tapestry Museum is situated in an exceptional context shaped by a rich history and a powerful natural environment. The Creuse capital of tapestry has been marked by its history since the royal manufactory of the 14th century. Its landscape is characterized by a granite base carved by the Creuse and the Beauze rivers, flanked by two wooded hillsides. This entire valley-town is dotted with historic monuments that form the northern panorama of the museum garden, with at its center the Clock Tower, a remnant of the protective wall that once surrounded Aubusson.

The D-Day Museum in Arromanches was the first museum created on this theme in the aftermath of the Second World War. A new page in the museum's history was written in 2024 with the opening of the new building designed by Projectiles. This phrase expresses well the main challenges of this project, which are memory, the knowledge and transmission of a shared history, as well as our duty of remembrance, beyond the disappearance of certain vestiges of the artificial port in the near future.

On this complex site, the series of constructions is hard to decipher. Except perhaps for the Hôtel Fleury, none of the buildings really stands out. We chose to insert a contemporary facade as the new entrance to the museum. The pronounced “mineral” nature of the project, both outside and inside, unites the different periods of construction: it binds them together, so to speak, both symbolically and structurally.

In May 2009, the agency Projectiles was contacted by MD, a carpenter quite unlike any other. Art collector, passionate about sailing boats, he entrusted Reza Azard, Hervé Bouttet and Daniel Mészàros with the creation of an office complex as an extension to his workshop. At the time, two warehouses of 1,500 square metres were situated twenty metres apart. The back of the parcel was free.
