Ethereal Whisper is a home designed for Minoy and Liji, who returned to Kerala after years in Canada seeking a quieter, more grounded life. Located in Karimannoor, Idukki, the house sits at the natural high point of a two-acre rubber plantation, an untouched clearing at the centre of the land. Elevated just enough to catch light, breeze, and views of the surrounding groves, the dwelling does not dominate its site but settles into it, like a soft pause within the landscape.

The design started from an old house where a family of seven stood, one yet to be born. Hari & Sreelakshmi, Usha-Hari's mother, Malathi teacher, Hari's grandmother, kids sankari, paru and yet to be born sreebala. Four generations living in a 60-year-old house that had begun to show its age with dimly lit rooms, leaking walls and lack of facilities, still age has limited their house with its responsibilities which made them thinking of a new house. Located in Pallickathodu, Kottayam, a 22-cent hilltop plot slopes 24 feet across. With a southern road, it gets constant airflow. The house follows the natural terrain without affecting movement.

At first glance, an extraordinary sight captivates the viewer: a 50-year-old majestic bay leaf tree, the sole arboreal presence on the site, reigns over it with its abundant foliage, instilling a sense of pride amid a lush tapioca plantation. This tree held cherished memories of the grandparents and the clients, Mr. Nidin and Mrs. Lekshmi. Mrs. Lekshmi had witnessed the tree throughout her life and wished for her children, Nila and Nilav, to experience its presence in their home. Thus, a house was built in the shadow of this bay leaf tree, akin to a fallen leaf, a BAY LEAF.
