The Milan-based studio has collaborated with the Fendi Maison to design an architecture that disappears into the landscape, placing itself in open dialogue with the surrounding nature. A raised garden is conceived to mend a long-standing rift in the terrain and recreate the hillside of the site in which it is located. This is what the new Fendi production building in Bagno a Ripoli (FI) looks like, whose design concept was conceived and developed by the Milan-based Piuarch studio and subsequently continued and coordinated by Fendi's Architecture Department. A complex of about 14,000 square meters rising in the Tuscan countryside, conceived around a high standard of landscaping and advanced energy efficiency, the brainchild of the Maison seeks to combine the excellence of its product with the creation of an architectural landmark having significant aesthetic and environmental value. Piuarch interprets this concept in a project that becomes an integral part of its surroundings rather than a mere graft.

The project began with a careful, in-depth functional analysis and a study of the relationships between itself and the existing building. The 50 residential units of the new structure are configured in two contiguous blocks, one facing southwest and the other southeast, such that the main façades do not clash with the existing ones.

The premises in via Mecenate, which were used for designing, assembling and testing airplanes, have now been developed into a large complex holding offices, showroom and spaces for holding fashion shows and operations connected with graphics, as well as a canteen and restaurant.

In March 2017 IDF Habitat proudly announced its new address, 15 km from the heart of Paris. Designed by Piuarch, Stefano Sbarbati and Incet Ingénierie, the winners of a competition held in 2013, the Champigny-sur-Marne headquarters were inspired by the desire to create an efficient, functional complex, and above all one that stands as an indispensable element in the area’s transformation process. The building is in fact part of the so-called “ZAC des Bords de Marne,” an ambitious redevelopment program aimed at defining a new social, cultural and productive sector connected with the city, interpreting expectations and generating a system with a strong identity.

We’re not in Venice, nor in Amsterdam, but in chameleon-like St. Petersburg, which changed its name three times in less than a century – from St. Petersburg to Petrograd to Leningrad – only to go back to its historic name after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The so-called “Russian gastronomic revolution” took root in the heart of the Soviet “Second Capital,” with innovative chefs and unconventional locales running parallel to institutional propositions and providing a dynamic alternative where design is a fundamental element.

Designed for the Expo 2015 area in Milan, the Caritas Pavilion is based around the message: “Divide to multiply. Break the bread” or, in other words, the idea of sharing wealth. The Edicola, this is the name of the small pavilion, has the appearance of a fragmented cube that translates into architectural terms the idea of crating wealth by sharing. The structure has been designed keeping simplicity at the core of its composition and the unadorned nature of its appearance.

The Concept

In designing the ENEL Pavilion for Expo 2015, Piuarch wanted to express the concept of “energy sharing” in an architectural theme. Not through a “building-container,” but rather with the creation of a virtual volume: a place, generated by a grid onto which 650 polycarbonate vectors are grafted. The arrangement of these constantly changing, illuminated vertical elements defines the volume that encompasses within itself a series of other volumes and green courtyards.

The building on Viale Piave and the one farther back rise seven floors above ground. The central body, connected to the rest of the construction by means of a system of stairs and skyways, has three floors and is suspended over a body that connects the three buildings, perpendicular to Viale Piave and rising four floors above ground. This way a large, deep inner courtyard is created, overlooked by all the buildings. The plan also provides for three underground floors, two of which to be used for parking.

The new D&G headquarters in Milan contains the showrooms for the collections, offices, a restaurant and a series of image spaces, ina total area of 5.000 square meters. Two buildings dating back to the 1920s and the 1960s, facing three streets, are combined in a complex with five floors above ground and two basement levels. The project is based on an architectural principle of great rigor, with the use of natural materials like white Namibia stone, glass and unfinished steel sheet.
